Vegetarian

A vegetarian is a vampire who does not drink human blood, and instead survives on the blood of animals. The word vegetarian was coined by the Cullen family so that they could refer to their unnatural diet in a civilized fashion. Being a vegetarian is very uncommon among vampires, and the majority consider the concept to be somewhat unusual. Nevertheless, being a vegetarian allows vampires to live among humans without detection; however, this can only be accomplished in regions with ample animal populations. In some cases, such vampires can live not as a coven but as a family as their needs are not always driven to kill. Due to chemical differences within the blood, vegetarians have gold eyes, as opposed to the usual red.

In the movie adaptation of Twilight, vampire vegetarianism is referenced in the fact that Bella is a vegetarian (in the sense that she doesn't eat meat).
