Carlsile found Vlad in the middle of a feild in Cuba, where he was attacked by a band of werewolves. During the transformation though, something unusual happed. His body began to produce muscles, and his eyes didn't turn red. His pupils shrivled down in to small circles showing the otter white of his eyes. Carslile took him back to Forks, so he could rest. Vlad wasn't a normal vampire. He was a lion shapeshifter, an Illumni.
