Hello all! For those who have followed my story until now I thank you, but also I apologize for making you wait so long for an update. It deeply sorrows me that I have to do this, but I don’t think I can continue my story. My life is far too crazy to indulge in my writing at the moment, so I hope you all will forgive me that I will no longer write. All those who have reviewed and commented on my story have always made me feel so wonderful and I feel just terrible letting you down.

Although I will no longer write, I did manage to come up with a rough outline that I will be more than willing to share with you all so that you know how Grace and Seth end up. Also, if you’re looking for more Twilight related reading, of course check out the rest of this amazing site, dedicated to this wonderful book. Another place you may want to look if you want to read some more is fanfiction.net. Within this site, you can search for stories by genre, length, language, and even main character! I hope this helps you all. And now, without further adieu, here is a basic epilogue of Grace’s Story:

After Seth’s dream, where we left off, Grace develops bonds with the other Cullen members. She grows rather close to Alice and Edward especially because she, like them, find that their powers can be rather annoying and hard to deal with. Grace never quite comes to close terms with Rosalie, most likely due to Grace’s closeness to Seth and the other werewolves. She plants a goodbye letter in her room, written as if it had been there all along for her parents to find, and attends her own funeral service where she witnesses the love that she had as a human, in her past life. It makes moving on seem unbearable at first, but then she realize that this is sort of like closure for her, and is able to go on with her life, knowing that she has so cleanly cut away from her former life. In about two years, when Seth is through with high school, Seth and Grace get married after he proposes to her in a similar fashion to the dream he experienced in the last chapter. They stick together throughout the years and once the Cullens move to their next place, Grace has enough control of her bloodlust to attend school again and finally finish her high school learning. Due to the fact that she was so young when she was changed, she helps the Cullens because they can now stay longer in one place, since she can pass as an eighth grader, but never is really able to go further than college in her schooling either, also due to her age. Renesmee also strikes a strong bond with Grace, once Edward and Bella trust Grace’s control more, because of how young they both are, causing them to have much in common. The death of her parents is quite hard on Grace, who had been watching on them from a distance. She attends their funeral in disguise in order to pay her last respects to her family. Seth and Grace love each other, even to this day, though they are fire and ice, werewolf and vampire, and will continue to love each other and their new families for the rest of forever.

Once again, this is just fanfiction, written truly for fun and no harm was meant in the creation of it. This is chapter 12 of my fanfiction, so be sure to read chapters 1-11 plus the preface if you haven't already. Hope you enjoy this but please, refrain from leaving hate mail. Enjoy! :)

12. New Beginnings

“You should probably hunt some more before we do anything else,” Carlisle said, gesturing to the bear carcass that I had taken my rage out on earlier. I gave a little half smile, proud of myself that I had managed to kill the huge bear on my own without a scratch to me. I then nodded and headed out of the cave, seeing the forest engulfed with the colors of the setting sun. I had always found sunsets to be beautiful, but with my new eyes, the world became a much clearer place, as if I had never truly seen anything before now. The thought of my eyes though sent an involuntary shiver down my spine. They were no longer my icy green-blue, but the vile red of a killer.

“They’ll fade in a few months,” Edward answered my thoughts, “hunting animals will speed up the fading process too.” I relaxed a little, knowing I wouldn’t look quite so sinister after a while.

“So, where do I go?” I asked, anticipating the warm blood to dull the burn in my throat. Carlisle, Jasper and Edward all closed their eyes, and I heard through their thoughts that they were scanning the area with their hearing, making sure no humans were in the area with me, as a newborn, hunting.

Sounds safe, Edward, I heard Carlisle think.

…There’s a herd of deer to the north, Jasper directed towards Edward also. I checked with Edward and after I got the okay from him, I locked onto the sound of the deer and headed off into a sprint. There were about seven deer nibbling on grass in the tiny clearing, about enough deer to go around, if I were being polite. Courtesy was one of the last things on my mind though as I sprang towards the largest deer, a buck, and sank my teeth into the flesh at its neck. My main concern was taking care of the burn in my throat. The buck, much to my dismay, didn’t contain nearly enough blood to satisfy my needs, so I quickly went to the closest deer and sucked it dry too.

Thankfully, my thirst was subdued and I actually felt a bit sloshy. I imagined that this feeling was the equivalent of being a stuffed human on Thanksgiving. I got a laugh from Edward, which would have made me blush if it were still possible. He shared my thought with the others and they too joined in the chuckling or in Seth’s case, an odd choking sound. I hadn’t even realized that he had phased while I hunted and I gazed at him, taking in his magnificence.

In the faint light of the dimming day, not that my new senses required much light in order to see, I saw his wolf for what seemed to be the first time. He was the color of the most pristine beaches that only truly exist in photographs. He was so majestic looking in the streak of sunlight that had escaped the treetops that I found my self approaching him and stroking his head. In doing so, I finally saw the total awesomeness of my skin too.

My hand glittered as if millions of tiny sparkles were placed on my skin, throwing off spectacular rainbows of color. I stood there for a moment, trying to absorb the fact that this, my disco ball skin, was a part of me now.

---

As we headed back to the main house, I was told in even greater detail of what I had become. I thought that my brain might overload due to the onslaught of information, but it seemed to have infinite depth to it now, which made things much easier to comprehend. We took a longer route back to the house, probably to avoid the cottage that had Renesmee in it as thought in Edward’s mind.

I waited to go into the house last, waiting for Seth to phase back into human form. I then intertwined my fingers with his before walking through the door. He lead me over to the couch and flopped onto it. I sat next to him and rested my head on his shoulder. He sighed and I looked at him, reading his thoughts to see what was up.

I’m so glad she’s not acting like those other newborns, Seth thought as an odd image of myself as a crazed vampire that he imagined flashed through his mind. I shuttered at the image and quickly did my best to shut his voice out of my head. As I did so, the switch sensation went off in my head, causing the voices to leave.

How peculiar, I thought. I tried to turn the voices back on and as if the connection had been repaired, voices flooded my cranium once again. While shutting off the power once more, I tried to get Jasper’s mood control to come back. I paused, trying to taste the mood in the air like I had before but I had no such luck. Frustrated, I attempted to switch back to mind reading and to my delight it still worked.

I wonder what she’s thinking, Seth thought as he stared at me. I had been so caught up in my thinking that I hadn’t noticed he had turned his body to face me better. Through his vision, I saw my face with my eyebrows scrunched together. I decided to answer him out loud.

“To answer your thought, I was just testing my powers,” I said to a slightly shocked Seth, “Turns out, I can switch my current power on and off if I think hard about it. Isn’t that cool?” He nodded his head and a smirk crossed his gorgeous features.

“I’m going to have to get used to worrying about my thoughts in front of two people now,” he chuckled. “So can you hear what I’m thinking now?”

“Nope, I decided to give your noggin some privacy,” I joked as I tapped his temple. He laughed along with me as he pulled me closer into a hug. The temperature difference between us was still a little uncomfortable, but I’d live; I loved him too much for it to really matter.

“At least you can make the voices go away,” Edward teased as he passed through the living room on his way upstairs. From my place against his chest, I felt Seth’s laugh rumble and shake along with my twinkling laugh. I pulled away to give him a kiss on the cheek but stopped short when I finally noticed the bags under his eyes.

“You should sleep,” I insisted as I lightly stroked the dark circles. He looked as though he was going to protest but a yawn quickly prevented him from doing so. “My point exactly. When’s the last time you slept, anyways?” He looked away from me and I quickly understood the pause. Seth hadn’t slept because he was too busy watching over me. I sighed and turned his face back to look at me. I smiled a little half-smile before stretching my neck to plant a kiss on his lips. Feeling his smile against my rock hard mouth, I pulled away and forced him to lean his way onto some pillows I had leaned against my side.

Seth sighed when he saw he wouldn’t get a chance to protest and lay his head down against the pillows on my lap. I ran my fingers through his short, dark hair, soon hearing his breathing turn into a soft snore. My lips turned into a smile, though I too wished that I could sleep like he. Or maybe I could, I thought mischievously as I switched the mind reading switch on. I zoned in on his thoughts, ignoring a conversation between Edward and Carlisle, and quickly got lost in the depths of his dreaming.

At first, it was just a ton of colors floating around his mind, but then the colors turned into people. Specifically, it was Seth and I.

It was a beautiful meadow filled with wildflowers and there was a small stream somewhere in the background. The two of us were just sitting there, watching the prisms of light that were thrown off my skin in the sunlight when all of a sudden, he knelt in front of me on one knee.

“Grace Elizabeth Cooper, I love you more than anything in the world,” Seth said, looking deep into my eyes. I just looked utterly shocked, my mouth forming an “o”, and my eyes showing complete and utter adoration. He then dug into his pocket and pulled out a small black felt box. He slowly opened it, revealing a simple gold band with a lone diamond on it. It was absolutely beautiful. “Will you marry me?”

“Yes,” I choked out. He gently took my left hand, placing the ring onto the correct finger and kissed it once it was in place. I then wrapped my arms around his neck as he stood up and spun me around.

Sadly though, the beautiful dream faded into gray as Seth woke up. I quickly snapped off the mind reading, feeling intrusive for watching his dream. He sighed before turning his head to look at me. His face was instantly filled with a breathtaking smile once he looked at me. I too smiled and bent my head over his to kiss his forehead. The sun shone through the living room windows, showing that it was already morning.

“Did you sleep well?” I asked, smiling, knowing very well that he slept extraordinarily well.

Author's Note: Hello spectacular fans :) The other day in Health class, instead of taking notes, I had this amazing idea for another story!!! It's going to involve the Volturi (*gasp*) and will possibly bring in parts of "Grace's Story" to create almost my own mini-series :) Does this sound cool to you guys? Lemme know; I love to hear from all of you out there. Once again, thank you for reading my story, it means so much to me.

Love, Twihard-fanpire

P.S. I know this chapter was short, but I couldn't wait for you all to read what I had!

11. Confusion

The scene that appeared before my eyes was drastically different from the gates of the underworld I had expected. No dark caverns or fire or smoke were waiting for me, just several anxious looking people. Carlisle, Edward, and Jasper stood in front of me while Seth stood next to me. I had no interest in the three in front of me, so I just watched them through my peripherals. I was most interested in Seth and the sudden urge I felt to curl up in his arms and finally be safe. I was so disoriented and the burn that lingered in my throat was terrible; only he could comfort me. In an effortless and almost simultaneous movement, I was standing next to him, my hands outstretched to touch his gorgeous body. But when I touched his skin, I was horrified.

I jumped back, clutching my hand to my chest, cringing at the memories of the burning his flaming skin brought back. I heard someone stiffen and I remembered that Seth and I weren’t alone. I looked down at my feet and waited to feel the blush heat my cheeks for my odd behavior. Strangely, nothing happened, and as I looked down, I didn’t see my black and white sneakers that I could have sworn I was wearing. Instead, chic leopard print flats were there and it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn’t been wearing this flow-y white sundress either. I looked at my hands and gasped once more, seeing my new super pale skin, that seemed to sparkle slightly, for the first time. My gaze shifted from my hands to Seth’s face, hoping to get some sort of explanation. I froze as I looked into his dark eyes.

I could clearly see my reflection, though this stranger was certainly not me. Raising my right hand to carefully touch my face, the stranger in the reflection copied my movement, touching her eyes too. They were as red as the devil’s. Evil. My brain put together the pieces and after only ten seconds time since I opened my eyes, I knew what I had become. Vampire.

How could he? I thought he loved me just the way I was? We had a year, and he chooses to change me into this?, I thought, unbelieving that the guy who had accepted me when I told him about my leukemia would go behind my back and do this to me. We had a year, a whole freaking year!

“It’s not what you think,” Edward finally said, breaking the silence.

“What do you mean by ‘It’s no what you think’?” I snarled at him in a voice that I had never heard before as I whirled around to glare at him.

“Grace, you were dying,” Carlisle started to say, but I quickly cut him off.

“I know I was dying,” I shrieked, “but I had a year before anything actually happened.” I then looked at Seth one last time before I made the quick decision to jump out the open window and run.

Edward was fast so he caught a hold of my wrist, but I ripped it out before anyone else could grab me. As he touched me though, the strangest of sensations shot through my arm and up to my brain. There was a tingling feeling, almost like a switch was being turned on, and I could suddenly hear voices.

I soared through the window, gracefully reaching the ground, and sprinted as fast as I could, urging my new found strength to push me farther and farther. As I reached the river, I heard someone say, I knew we should have brought Alice with us!, it sounded like Carlisle, but no sound had escaped his mouth. I started hearing another voice in my head, Edward’s, I thought, but I ignored him, just wanting to get out of here and concentrate on my running.

While running, I passed a small cottage, guarded by Jacob’s wolf and Emmett. At first, I wondered why, but then I heard a mouthwatering heartbeat, just inside the tiny house. It made my throat burn wildly. But I was not going to be a monster no matter what I had become, so I ran faster, propelling myself away from the temptation, not wanting to attract more pursuers.

I ran for what must have been hours and gradually stopped hearing the others who followed me. I took cover in a nearby cave in what must have been Canada and collapsed on the floor. I tried crying but no tears escaped my eyes, I just shook letting out a small wailing noise as I clutched my knees to my chest. Sitting there, I just wallowed in my sadness.

A loud roar came from behind me in the cave. I turned to see a big bear a few feet away from me in the dark cave. His sudden interruption caused the rage to flow out of me once again and I lunged at his throat, sinking my teeth and sucking him dry. The blood dulled the strange burn in my throat while keeping me from being a total monster. I went back to my place on the cool ground after wiping my mouth on my arm and tucked into a tiny ball, trying to totally comprehend what had happened.

I started to cry my tearless sobs again, when realization hit me like a wrecking ball. I really had been dying. I remembered what I had thought were my final moments, all my flashbacks that were now dim compared to what I saw with my new eyes. The impact of my car hitting the tree and seeing his face, so torn with agony also flashed through my mind, making me feel horrible for my earlier actions.

Is she in there, I heard Seth think. This was really weird, but I hoped that they could explain it to me. I saw Edward nod through Seth’s vision. Seth then walked to the entrance of the cave and stopped, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the darkness. I carefully got up and walked to him and wrapped my arms around him though the temperature difference was a little uncomfortable.

Apparently, I hadn’t walked over as slowly as I thought, because Seth jumped slightly before he wrapped his arms around me. Is she better now? I heard him worriedly ask Edward with his thoughts. I decided to answer for myself.

“Yes,” I answered softly in my new tinkling voice. He gasped slightly and I pulled away to look at his face. Seth seemed utterly confused and surprised, but I only shot him a half-smile before burying my face into his chest and crying more tearless sobs. His scent burned my nostrils, but I didn’t care anymore; I was safe in his arms. “I’m so sorry,” I managed to choke out. “I couldn’t remember anything. I love you.”

His arms tightened around me and one of his hands was now moving in soothing circles on my back as he kissed the top of my head. I heard three pairs of light footsteps join us at the mouth of the cave and I looked around Seth to see them. I looked directly at Edward and told him with my mind that I had it all straightened out now. I also asked him with my mind if he had any idea what was up with me being able to read thoughts too.

“I don’t know,” he answered my unspoken question. Carlisle and Jasper shot him confused looks. “She asked if I knew why she could read minds too. And she apologized for her outburst, she couldn’t remember what had happened until now.” I shot Edward a thankful smile as Carlisle turned to look at me.

“Can you really read our minds too?” he asked.

“Yes,” I answered, my new voice still shocking me slightly. “I couldn’t earlier though, so I don’t know what happened.” I wrapped an arm around Seth’s waist as I spoke, turning him so that I could talk to the others without having to peer around him.

“How interesting,” he said, his eyes lighting up with interest because of the new information. “I wonder…” he started again but I tuned him out when I heard Edward speak to me directly through his mind.

Run through all that you remember from when you woke up, he ordered, trying to figure out what happened. I nodded my head with the smallest of movements before playing back the images from earlier today for him. After showing him everything, I saw in his mind how he kept replaying a small part, the part when he had grabbed onto my wrist and the shock went up my arm. It looks like you can copy powers by touching someone, he thought excitedly.

“Awesome!” I yelled, forgetting that we hadn’t been talking out loud. Edward chuckled while everyone else just looked at me with puzzled expressions.

“I think she can copy powers with her touch. It’s power mimicry,” Edward said with a smirk on his face. Seth’s hand on my back rubbed up and down, as if to congratulate me. I looked at Edward and smiled while I asked him a quick question in his head. He nodded and I unwound my arm from around Seth and walked towards Jasper. He seemed confused and a little wary as I approached him but smiled when he put two and two together, figuring out what I was going to do.

“May I?” I asked as Jasper extended his hand towards me. My palm lightly touched his hand and a similar zing shot up my arm to my head. There seemed to have been a switch that got turned off, keeping out the voices out. I turned my body slightly so that I could look back at Seth, Edward, and Carlisle. Not knowing what to expect I just tried my best to think the happiest thoughts I could, hoping that I was making the four of them happier with Jasper’s power.

“Amazing!” Carlisle and Jasper exclaimed at the same time. I looked at everyone’s faces and saw that they all seemed to be glowing with happiness. I felt like flying, and I giggled, totally caught up in the moment. I let the emotion-tampering die down but everyone still seemed to be thrilled. “I wonder how this came to be your power,” Carlisle pondered, looking at me.

“I don’t know,” I answered truthfully, “I couldn’t do anything cool before. My talent was being good at school, but I would hardly call that a talent.”

“Would you mind running through some of your memories for me?” Edward asked, a curious expression on his face.

“Which ones?” I asked, unsure of why he wanted to look at my past.

“Just anything you can remember,” he said. I waited for a second, trying to think of exactly what I wanted to show him, but then I remembered that it wouldn’t matter, he could probably see them all anyway. Edward laughed a little as closed my eyes, trying my best to show him everything. I went back as far as kindergarten, when I had learned how to read so easily, it was scary. Learning to ride a bike, playing the piano and saxophone and guitar, schoolwork and anything else that I could think of. I also thought about Seth, but I breezed through those, knowing that Edward wouldn’t want to hear about how crazy in love I was with Seth. Everything that required learning or memorization had come to me so effortlessly, like I could just pick up on anything by watching. Edward smiled at me as I opened my eyes.

May I?, I asked with my thoughts. His power seemed to be the most useful at the moment. Edward smiled, probably amused that I thought his power was cool, as he held out his hand. I closed the space between us in one elegant stride, touched his palm and felt the zing of the switches being changed in my mind, and then made my way back to Seth’s side, wrapped my arm around his waist again and gave him a light squeeze. I had more questions for them.

“So, what’s the story? How’d you cover it up?” I asked feeling morbidly interested in my death. They all gave each other uneasy looks before Carlisle finally spoke.

“Well, the accident was quite damaging, most would have died within seconds,” he said as I shuddered at the thought of being so close to death. “Alice got a cadaver from the hospital and put it into the car in your place as we burned it so that the remains couldn’t be identified.”

“Do you know how my parents took it?” I asked, not really wanting to know because I already knew the answer. I was Danielle and Liam’s only child, their baby, and I was taken away from them far before my deadline. They had to have taken it very hard and I was suddenly grateful for having written my farewell letter when I was diagnosed a month ago. I saw Edward nod at me, confirming my predictions about my parents.

“They’re going to have a fountain built at the school in your memory,” Carlisle added. I smiled at that. My parents had always known that I loved the water; it was the perfect idea. I nodded, feeling the sorrow taking over. I put my face against Seth’s chest, disregarding his smell, shaking as more of my water-less tears rattled me. His arms wrapped protectively wrapped around me and rubbed up and down as he murmured that it would be alright into my hair. I felt a calming peace in the air a split second after I heard in Edward’s mind to make the decision to ask Jasper for help. I shot a thank you to Edward with my mind before pulling myself away from Seth’s safe grasp. Instead, I seized his hand, weaving my fingers with his.

“What do we do next?”

Author's note: Hello my amazing fans :) Just so you know, I'm doing my best to keep updating the story but due to the enormous amount of schoolwork I've been getting, I hardly have spare time to write. For the future though, would those of you who want immediate updates of my story comment on here? I don't have a formal list or anything, making it hard to keep track, and I want to make sure I keep you informed. Thank you so much! :)

10. Fire

Grace

Warmth. There was a light heat spreading through me and at first I thought it was because I was still with Seth in my room like I had been this morning. I brought the memory closer but knew that it couldn’t be true, we had gone out and met people, I was sure of that, but after waving at Seth as I pulled out of the Cullen’s driveway, I remembered nothing.

The heat grew, becoming slightly uncomfortable as I lay wherever I was. I tried to open my eyes and look around, but the lids were so heavy and I gave up quickly. Hotter now. Why wasn’t the heat letting up? Along with the increasingly uncomfortable heat there was an almost weighed down quality to my body that was keeping me from being able to move or speak. It was odd and made me feel like I was being smothered by a heavy electric blanket.

The heat kept growing and growing with still no sign of me being able to speak. At this point, I wanted to scream. Did no one else see the flames that were clearly engulfing me? I had never experienced anything so warm and had no idea that anything could be so warm and manage to keep getting hotter. Though I could not move due to the unknown weight, I could feel most of my body, except for below my waist. How odd, I thought, but that thought was quickly thrown away, replaced by my want and need to get out of the fire that was turning me into burnt toast.

Another short blurb of thoughts popped into my mind. Did I die? Is this hell? What did I do to deserve this? But like my previous thought, they were all discarded because my mind was more focused on the fire. I wanted to die. To never have been born so I couldn’t feel the pain. It was hotter than the sun; I was slowly being charred alive. I now knew for sure that I was alive, however briefly that was going to be, because I could now hear the ferocious beating of my heart.

The moment of heat seemed endless, dragging on forever, as it incinerated every inch of my body, including below my waist, which seemed to have somehow reconnected to the rest of me. I heard breathing in the room wherever I was and wanted to desperately ask them to just kill me already. Whatever I had done, I just wanted this to be over, to be put out of my unimaginable misery.

As time went on, I oddly felt stronger, though I was still being burned to pieces, and the weight was lifted off of me. I experimentally twitched my finger to see if I was no longer paralyzed. Wrong decision. Though the movement was small, it caused what I had been keeping in because of the weight to flow out in an uncontrollable stream. I screamed at the top of my lungs, a long, bloodcurdling wail that hardly summed up the pain I was going through. If I could have screamed one hundred times louder and one hundred times longer, that might have only started to cover the inconceivable pain I was enduring. I heard two shocked intakes of air and sudden pressure on the inside of my hand and arm. Without opening my eyes, I knew who they belonged to. I could not feel his warmth or the coolness of the other that seized my free hand, but I knew that Seth was with me. I wrenched open my eyes, forcing myself to try to look around and see him. His face was twisted into agony as he clutched my hand.

“Kill me,” I screeched as I stared him in the eyes with a crazed look, “Please, kill me.” The effort was too much and I passed out. Somehow, I still managed to feel the searing heat although the outside world was blank. The heat started to slowly recede from different parts of my body, increasing in intensity as it left towards my raging heart.

The outside world started to come into focus again, though I only heart one set of worried breathing matched with a beating heart. Fire still seething and growing as it retreated to my heart, I tried to stay as still as possible, not wanting another scream to shatter the air. Why wasn’t I dead?

The fire was now hotter than I ever imagined, remaining only in my abdomen and throat, and my heart, already pounding in a desperate frenzy, sped up. I heard another shocked intake of air come from Seth who must have been the one in the room. I heard him cross the few feet of space between us as he went to stand next to me on my bonfire pit. He grabbed my hand, rubbing his thumb in what were supposed to be soothing circles on the back of my hand. It would have been nice, if not for the fact that the intense flames were still consuming me.

“It’s almost over,” he murmured in a tormented voice. I didn’t dare move, not wanting to burst his eardrums with the scream that would follow.

He was right about the fire, it did start to subside towards my heart. I heard faint footsteps and breathing of two other people join Seth. Did they come to watch the show? I thought acidly. My thoughts were soon returned to the all-consuming fire that was now causing my heart to beat faster, even more so than before. My heart seemed to give up as the flames entered it; it only thumped five more times before it spluttered to a stop.

Thinking I was dead, although I had heard Seth’s voice and saw his face, I opened my eyes, looking for the fiery pits of hell that I had seemed to go through. The scene was not at all as I had expected and I took in a sudden breath of air as I took in my surroundings.

9. Crash

Seth

I waved while I walked to the porch as Grace drove down the Cullen’s long pathway in the starting rain. After she was out of sight, I went back into the house, surprisingly tired from the events of the past few days. I sat on the Cullen's light colored couch, leaning my head back and closing my eyes. No one else was in the room and I slowly felt myself being taken over by sleep.

“Seth,” Alice said in a strained voice while coming down the stairs. I opened my eyes to see that she was gripping the railings and had a distant look on her face. I knew that look and rushed over to her, feeling that something was very wrong.

“Alice,” I encouraged as I walked to her side on the stairs, “What’s wrong? What do you see?” Edward, Jasper and the rest of the Cullens that were in nearby quickly joined me on the stairs. I heard Edward’s sharp intake of air as he saw what Alice had seen, causing the suspense to become even more unbearable.

“It’s Grace,” she breathed, “her car just crashed into a tree. She’s dying…” With that my world seemed to come to an end. There was no time to feel sorry for myself though, I had to find her.

“Where is she?” I demanded, my body shaking, ready to phase as soon as I was out the door.

“A mile from the end of the driveway, she’s into the tree line a little bit. Her car wrapped around a tree,” Alice said, her eyes still looking distant. I was the first out the door and as soon as I was at the edge of the porch I practically tore off my clothes and then I leapt, phasing in midair. I heard some others behind me, but I paid little attention to them; I had to get to Grace and I needed to get to her fast. Running with motivation like this, I ran faster than I had ever before. Eventually I was running in pace with Edward, who I knew was the fastest of the Cullens.

We reached her car quickly and I almost broke down at the sight of it. Her car had come into contact with a tree after skidding, causing the front half of her car to hug the huge old tree. I phased back, hastily throwing back on my shorts, and raced to her side of the car along with Edward and I saw her, crumpled over in the driver’s seat with the air bag out that had since been deflated, blood starting to seep through her mouth. I watched as her eyes twitched open to the sound of her door being torn off by Edward, her once sparking blue eyes flat and almost lifeless as they locked onto my face.

“I love you, Seth,” I heard her try to say, followed by some blood that oozed out of her mouth. Listening to her this way, in such terrible pain, finally got past the small front that I had built for myself and I let out an agonized wail. I reached into the car, ripping the seatbelt off of her, and pressed her close to my chest as I sprinted back to the Cullen’s house. I caught a glimpse of Alice as she appeared, helping Edward do something with the wreckage, coming up with a new crime scene to replace this one.

I put little thought into what was happening, putting my full concentration on running as quickly as I possibly could. When I made it back to the house, Grace’s breaths were coming in shallow gasps and I frantically dashed into the house, almost running into Carlisle as I entered. He gestured for me to follow, leading me up the stairs to his office. In the center was a hospital-like table and I laid Grace’s battered body onto it. I paced by her head as Carlisle examined her, though I knew his conclusion before he told me. I couldn’t stand the idea of losing her, my light, my other half, my universe, after I had just found her. I then made the hardest decision of my life.

“Save her,” I begged, "Please." Carlisle simply nodded, getting something out of a vial in a cabinet. Morphine, I guessed. He injected it into her body, only waiting a moment or two before he bit her. I watched with a morbid fascination as he sunk his teeth into different parts of her body, her neck, her wrists, her legs, anything to give her a better chance of survival. He ran his tongue over all the marks, to seal in the venom and scarce amount of blood still left in her system. I knew this because once Jacob had thought of Bella’s transformation. I sat down in a chair a foot or two away from her head, watching her and hoping that I had made the right decision.

“Thank you,” I whispered to Carlisle. He nodded and left the room. I looked at Grace again, seeing her eerily still. Why couldn’t I have stopped this, I only had one year with her and I blew it, I thought, mentally tearing myself to pieces. I let my head droop, ashamed at myself. A cold hand was placed on my shoulder and I looked up to see Carlisle was back.

“It’s not your fault,” he said, trying to comfort me. The words may have been true, but I couldn’t help but think that there had been something more I could have done. I shook my head, unable to forgive myself.

Once again, this is just fanfiction, written truly for fun and no harm was meant in the creation of it. This is chapter 8 of my fanfiction, so be sure to read chapters 1-7 plus the preface if you haven't already. Hope you enjoy this but please, refrain from leaving hate mail. Enjoy! :)

8. Rain

I woke up to his warmth still surrounding me. Opening my eyes, I looked slowly up to see that Seth was still asleep. I brought my hand up to his face, stroking his gorgeous features with the gentlest of touches. My fingers traced his high cheekbones, his straight nose, his perfect lips… Seth’s eyes finally fluttered open, resting lovingly on me. My heart melted and all I could do was stare at him, getting lost in his dark eyes, my fingers stopping on his neck. He smiled as his hand reached my face. I closed my eyes, shivering with delight, as his fingers memorized my face, gently touching my eyes, my nose, my mouth, and then slowly moved down the length of my neck. I loved this man, more than anyone could imagine, and lying here with him made me think of the future. I thought, if it weren’t for the fact I would be dead in a little under a year, Seth and I would get married after graduating, running off somewhere to start our lives together. We would live in a house with a garden and eventually have kids, a little boy or girl or both with Seth’s features, my eyes, and we would grow old together, loving each other for the rest of our lives. The sudden realization that I would never be able to have this beautiful future had me heartbroken. I unwillingly opened my eyes and looked into his, taking a deep breath to steady myself for what I wanted to say.

“We could run away together,” I cautiously whispered, not sure how he would react.

“Hmmm?” Seth said, still tracing my features. He didn’t seem to get where I was going.

“Just you and me, together forever,” I said. Seth’s hand stopped, resting on the side of my face, a puzzled expression coming across his face. I took a deep breath and told him of the thought I just had, nearly crying as I told him how much I wish it could happen.

His grip around me tightened and my wall broke, releasing the tears that I had managed to stop just a few minutes earlier. Seth’s hand patted my back in soothing circles as I cried, leaving a small wet spot on his shirt. He murmured to me how he too wished that were our future. When my eyes finally went dry, I looked up to see Seth still had a look of utter adoration but concern was also there.

“I’m fine now,” I said, forcing myself to smile to truly reassure him. “I just had to get that off my chest.” The corner of his mouth pulled up into a half smile, but he still seemed wary. “So, what’s on the agenda for today?”

“Well, I was thinking that maybe you wanted to meet some people,” Seth responded.

“Like who?” I asked, curiosity overtaking me.

“My mom, my sister, the Cullens…” he said as my mouth flopped open on the last name he mentioned. Don’t get me wrong, I was worried about meeting his family too, but meeting vampires, no matter how nice they were supposed to be, was a seemingly daunting task. Seth chuckled at my expression. “They’ll be our last stop for today if that makes you feel any better.”

I nodded, and the thought did make me better, but only marginally. I gave Seth another squeeze before I pulled away, stretching, and got out of bed to get some clothes to take into the bathroom to change. I stood in front of my closet, trying to pick out something that looked nice. I pulled out a pair of dark wash jeans and a chic lavender top that had delicate looking lace around the neckline. After I had successfully created an outfit, I hurried out of my room to the bathroom, flashing a quick smile at Seth on my way out.

I got changed quickly and spent a little extra time perfecting the natural looking makeup that I wore. Glancing at myself in the mirror, I was slightly shocked at what I saw. It wasn’t that I had necessarily changed; I still had my messily wavy brown hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. It just was that I had a new air about me, almost a glow to my skin and a sparkle in my eye that had never been there before. I smiled, knowing what caused me to shine now.

Returning to my room, I found Seth sitting at my desk, looking through some of my stuff. I crept as quietly as I could behind him to see what he was looking at. In his hand was my sophomore schedule, which puzzled me slightly because there was better stuff for him to snoop through, like my diary, only inches away.

“I didn’t know you were that smart,” Seth said, seeming perplexed. I had never thought of myself as smart, but to anyone else, the fact that I was taking all honors/advanced classes might qualify me as a smarty-pants, and I definitely didn’t want Seth to think of me that way. I was just a regular person.

“I’m not, really. I just test well and make good guesses and stuff,” I joked as I sat on the edge of my bed, a foot or two away from Seth. “So, when should we go?”

“Whenever you want,” he said, looking back at me. I grabbed his free hand and nodded. We left my room, leaving through the front door instead of out the window because my parents had already left for work that day. I walked down the short driveway to my car that was parked on the curb and climbed into the drivers seat and was soon joined by Seth sitting next to me. I drove the familiar stretch to LaPush, worrying about what to expect for today. I think Seth sensed that I was worried, and broke the tension that had grown in the silence. “Mind if I turn on the radio?”

“Go ahead,” I replied. He fiddled with the controls on my radio for a few moments before my favorite song came through the speakers. Out of habit, I started to sing the words to it under my breath, almost forgetting that I wasn’t alone. Seth joined me, and soon we were singing along with the song in what would seem to be loud, obnoxious voices to anyone else. I personally thought we were great, and joked to Seth that we could win a Grammy for our performance. He laughed along with me and as soon as we were on the Rez, he gave me directions to get to his house. I had never seen it before, but as I pulled up his driveway, I felt like I had done it a million times.

It was a faded white house, similar to the Black’s in size, with the tree line right at the back of their yard. The “meet and greet” was relatively short. His mom, Sue as she told me to call her, was super nice and Leah, Seth’s sister, was pretty nice too. She seemed uncomfortable for some reason but was trying her best to be pleasant. After an hour or so, we were off again, to the next stop on our list, The Cullen’s house. Seth offered to drive and I greedily accepted; I needed as much time as I could to prepare myself to really meet them.

The ride was surprisingly longer than I had thought it would be and the house that we came up to after the long pathway surprised me even more. It was a soft white color and stretched three stories up with a wide porch that surrounded the first story. The house had to be a hundred years old but it had a timeless grace to it and was meticulously well kept. Not that I had been expecting a cave when Seth said we were going to the Cullens. I expected something glitzier considering the cars I had seen them drive to school last year.

I was still staring out the dashboard window towards the house when Seth opened my door, reaching his hand out to me. I grabbed it, intertwining my fingers with his and I instantly felt calm and secure. I took a deep breath as I always did to brace myself and walked up the porch steps with Seth. You’re smart, funny, and beautiful, and if they don’t like you, that’s their problem, I told myself like my mom had when I was little. I repeated that in my head like a mantra as Seth knocked on the door. It was quickly, but not too quickly, answered by Dr. Cullen, who I had seen from time to time for check ups of my leukemia in the hospital.

“Seth, Grace, nice to see you,” he said, gesturing to come inside. With my hand still in Seth’s, we walked into the house. I flashed a smile, trying to remember the people skills that I had gotten from being on Speech and Debate team last year.

The inside of the house was much like the outside of the house in that it was far from what I had expected. It was all light colors and one huge room that must have been quite a few different ones at some point in time. There was a gorgeous grand piano to the left of the door on a raised portion of floor along with a couch and many chairs occupying the opposite side of the room. The southern wall was completely glass.

“So, Grace, the Cullens are like my second family,” Seth said, sweeping his free hand around the room. I counted the faces that greeted me warmly, six Cullens; Dr. and Mrs., Alice and Jasper, Bella and Edward, plus Jacob and a little girl named Renesmee who must have been about five or six. Seth introduced me to them all, though I already knew their names, and each smiled or welcomed me. I knew from gossip that there were two more Cullens missing, the beautiful Rosalie and the intimidating Emmett, but I didn’t put much thought into it.

“It’s nice to meet you all,” I said in the most confident voice I could manage as I flashed another sincere grin and waved at everyone. This isn’t so bad, I thought proud that I had managed to keep calm and not sound utterly stupid.

“It’s nice to meet you too,” Dr. Cullen, or Carlisle as he had said when Seth introduced me, said as he reached out his hand to shake mine. I reached out and touched his ice-cold hand, shuddering ever so slightly at the shocking temperature.

“We’ve heard so much about you from Seth,” Esme said as she too reached out to shake my hand. Her hand also felt wintry, but I was more prepared for the temperature. There was something about her that made me feel completely at ease. Perhaps it was because she fit the motherly role she played in her family’s charade perfectly.

I glanced back at Seth. He had a slightly worried look on his face, probably just nervous as to how I would react, but as soon as I made eye contact with him, his face changed, warming and turning into an expression of love and adoration. I was frozen, glancing into his dark eyes for perhaps the thousandth time. The two of us just stood there, forgetting the world, but stopped when someone cleared their throat. My face flushed deep red and I smiled an impish smile as I turned back to the group. I got a chuckle from the general direction of Edward but too quick to be really sure it happened, Bella elbowed him in the ribs.

In a streak of black hair and pale skin, Alice was in front of me, a huge grin on her face. She drew me into a quick hug then grabbed my hand, leading me upstairs. I reluctantly released Seth’s hand, seeing that he wasn’t coming with, and looked back at him once again, almost getting lost in his gaze. But I quickly snapped out of it and put my focus on not tripping up the stairs because of the pace that Alice was taking. When we finally made it up the flight of stairs, she gracefully glided into one of the rooms. It was large, with a bedroom sized closet and another bedroom sized bathroom connected to it. She freed my hand from her strong grasp as she flitted off to her massive closet. Not sure of what exactly she was doing, I walked to her bed and perched onto the edge of it. After a moment or two, she called me into the depths of her closet. While I walked in, I gaped at the colossal amounts of clothing that was in it. She was almost all the way in the back, standing in front of a small section of wall and as I approached her, I saw what was there.

Shoes. Steve Madden, Gucci, and many more labels that I didn’t recognize were laid out on the shelves that reached from the floor to the ceiling. I reached my hand out as if to stroke one of the many fabulous pairs of shoes but my hand just hung in the air, touching nothing. Slightly to the right of the shoe wall was a lone rack holding a shimmery teal dress with sparkling silver high heels.

“You’re going to make homecoming court,” was all she said in her singsong voice. I looked at her questioningly. “It’s for you, silly,” Alice said, answering my expression as she gestured towards the stunning ensemble. I was utterly shocked, unable to do anything for a few moments. I couldn’t speak, so I closed the space between us, giving her a big hug.

We talked for a while about clothes and school and other things. Alice was a super awesome and nice person; I didn’t need her special ability to see the future to see us becoming good friends. Eventually, we were interrupted by a light knock on the doorframe. Alice didn’t seem surprised at all, but I nearly jumped out of my skin. Into the closet walked Jacob and the little girl named Renesmee that I had met earlier.

“Hey, Jake,” I called after composing myself. He smiled a crooked smile at me before responding.

“Weird, huh?” he asked, a teasing tone to his voice.

“Yeah, especially you,” I teased right back, shooting him a sly grin. He laughed, but Renesmee seemed to be slightly annoyed with me.

“Hey, so, if it’s alright, could Nessie- err- Renesmee show you something?” he asked.

“Sure,” I responded, not sure of what the little girl wanted to show me. I kneeled down on one knee as she approached me.

“Watch, please,” Renesmee instructed as she reached her hand towards my face. Unsure of what she meant, I just stared at her. She grinned a bit wider as she touched the tips of her fingertips to my forehead. I gasped but didn’t move away. With her way of communicating, she told me everything. So much information flooded towards me that I could hardly recall some of it. When she was done, she gently removed her hand from my face.

“Thank you,” Renesmee said in her amazingly beautiful voice, her chocolate colored eyes shining. She was absolutely stunning and I couldn’t help but smile back at the little girl. She returned a bright, breathtaking smile to me and went back towards Jacob, practically flinging herself into his arms. Jake and Renesmee left, leaving Alice and me to talk more about fashion and such. She showed me some of her designs, which were fabulous, and I promised her that if she were to make them, I would definitely wear them. We talked for a little more before there was another knock on the closet door. I turned to see Seth leaning in the doorway a sly grin on his face.

“Hey, beautiful,” he said.

“Hey,” I said as I walked to him, wrapping my arms around his muscular waist and burying my face against his chest. He pulled me tightly against him and I was immediately surrounded by his warm woodsy smell that I loved so much.

“Want to go for a walk?” he asked.

“Sure,” I responded as I drew out of our embrace. I walked back to Alice, hugging her too. “Thank you, Alice. I had so much fun hanging out with you!” I looked at her face to see that she was elated and had a huge grin on her face.

“We’ll have to get together again sometime,” Alice practically sang.

“Definitely,” I agreed.

“Oh, and I’ll put your dress in the car for you!”

“Thanks so much! You’re the best.”

I left Alice’s side and took Seth’s awaiting hand as he led me down the stairs and outside. The summer air was strangely cool, causing me to involuntarily shiver. Seth unhooked his fingers from mine to wrap his arm around my waist, drawing me closer to his warm body. I wrapped my arm around his waist too, loving how perfectly we fit together, almost as if we were two pieces of a puzzle. We walked for a little while longer, stopping at what I guessed would be out of earshot for the Cullens. There was a little rock formation settled into the woods that had a great view of the now setting sun that Seth and I perched on. The rocks were quite cold having not absorbed the heat of the day, so I pressed myself closer to his side. We watched the sunset for a little bit before I looked at his face to see that he was watching me. Déjà vu, I thought, remembering that this was how our first kiss had started.

I reached to put my face closer to his, closing my eyes, and our lips touched, sending out fireworks like they had the first time. Unlike our first kiss though, I knew that he loved me, no matter what, and that we were meant to be. The realization caused me to stretch my arms, entwining my fingers with his hair. Seth responded quickly, returning the newly found passion that I had. I had to break away, gasping for air, but not for long because the way his eyes were burning with ardor was enticing. I launched my face back at him, moving my hands down to his muscular chest. Undoing the top few buttons, I was able to touch his skin, feeling the true intensity of his heat. He sighed a little as my hands traced the planes of his chest while our lips moved wildly together. As he moved his lips down my neck, I was able to see that the sun had finally set behind the trees.

“I should get going, it’s getting kind of late,” I reluctantly sighed. Seth pulled his head away from my neck, his eyes shining. We both got up and hiked our way back to my car. It was a slightly shorter trip, most likely because it started to drizzle rain. I hopped into the drivers seat and rolled down the window so that I could say goodbye to Seth. I had offered him a ride, but he said that he was going to stick around here a little while longer.

“So, can I come see you later?” Seth asked.

“I would like that a lot,” I replied. I reached my head out the window so that I could give him a goodbye kiss and then waved towards the house, and yelled thank you. I got a few waves from the porch and windows before I pulled away, waving one more time to Seth before I drove down the long path. I sped up once I hit the main road, wanting to get home before the big storm hit. Today had been nice and I was happy that I seemed to be accepted by everyone that I had met.

Suddenly, while going through a turn, I lost control of my car and it skidded across the wet road. Hydroplaning. My car was slipping and sliding and I had absolutely no control, whatsoever. I tried to remain calm, until I saw where my car was headed. A wide old tree was waiting just a few feet away. I was seconds away. I love you, Seth, was the last thing that went through my mind before the outside world went black.

Flickers went through my mind of my short life, memories that hadn’t been touched since when they were made. The warmth of my momma holding me when I was little, my first tooth I lost, my first crush on Johnny in second grade, my first day of high school and many more played in short bursts through my head as I sat there, dying. The longest of those memories came last. It was him. His beautiful russet colored body, perfect in everyway I could think, with a kind, happy look in his eyes. Every kiss, every touch, every feeling I had ever had for him flashed through my mind one last time.

I knew it was over, but I heard people speaking frantically. I wanted to tell them just to leave me and that there was nothing they could do to help. My eyes flickered open one last time to see who was there, making a feeble attempt to save me. Though my vision was splotchy and fuzzy, I could clearly make out one of the faces, the one that I wanted so badly to see.

“I love you, Seth,” I said, but the blood that was in my mouth made it hard to speak. He seemed to hear me and a shriek of agony tore through him. Somehow, the door of my car had been ripped off and he pulled me through the opening, clutching me close to his chest as he ran. I glanced back one last time to see my car on fire, other figures standing around it. Then, it became too hard to hold on, and I looked at Seth one last time before the world went blank for good.

Once again, this is just fanfiction, written truly for fun and no harm was meant in the creation of it. This is chapter 7 of my fanfiction, so be sure to read chapters 1-6 plus the preface if you haven't already. Hope you enjoy this but please, refrain from leaving hate mail. Enjoy! :)

7. Wolf

Seth promised that he would show me, and I shortly feel into a deep, dreamless sleep. When I finally woke up, the sun was brightly streaming through my curtain. Had the events of last night been a dream? No, I thought, examining the beautiful bracelet on my left hand. I looked at my alarm and was shocked that I had managed to sleep in until noon. I was supposed to meet Seth in LaPush over an hour ago! Not wanting to worry him anymore, I rushed as I got ready, almost using my toothbrush filled with toothpaste to brush my hair. I didn’t need to worry about running into my parents, they were already at work, so I climbed into my car and sped to LaPush, crossing my fingers that I wouldn’t run into any cops.

Thankfully, I didn’t get pulled over and safely made it to LaPush. I pulled my little car into the first spot I found along First Beach and dashed out of the car, trying to get to the bonfire pit quicker than my legs were willing to take me. Seth was waiting for me in by what was now becoming our usual spot. A huge smile spread across his face when he saw me hurrying to get to him.

“Sorry I’m so late,” I apologized.

“It’s okay,” he replied, “you had a long night last night.” I laughed because it truly had been a long night. Learning your boyfriend and a lot of his friends are werewolves and that there is a friendly coven of vampires nearby isn’t exactly the easiest thing to take in either. I was glad to know the secrets about Seth too; it made mine seem so trivial.

“So…” I started, not sure of how to ask what I wanted, “when are you going to show me?” He chuckled and took my hand, lightly pulling me towards the forest.

“We’re just going to hike a little before I show you. We wouldn’t want to freak out the tourists,” I glanced around the beach and sure enough, there were a few tourists sprinkled here and there. I had never noticed them in my other visits to the beach, probably because I was too preoccupied with Seth.

We walked in the forest, starting to follow the trail that had been worn down over the years and then Seth abruptly turned, straying from the path, taking me with him.

“Uhm, I don’t think we’re supposed to go off the path,” I said as Seth gave me an amused expression. “Oh, right. Tourists and stuff, gotcha.” The two of us continued on his made-up path, eventually reaching a rather large clearing. As I looked around the field, still taking in my surroundings, Seth let go of my hand and jogged back towards the bushes.

“You’re not ditching me, are you?” I asked joking. He just continued into the trees, laughing as he pulled off his shirt. Seth then, from the dense cover of the bushes and trees, started to remove other articles of clothing, forming a messy pile.

“Any particular reason why you decided it was a good idea to strip in the woods?” Again, Seth just laughed. I waited, listening to the sounds of the forest, listening for any sign of the changing I had imagined for turning into a werewolf, but I didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary.

All of a sudden, a massive creature came out from the very spot where I had seen Seth last. And he was beautiful. His tan fur, like the tan color in the bracelet he had given me the night before, was like the sand you find on the most pristine of beaches. He towered over me standing on all fours, which may have intimidated me if it had not been for one thing. This magnificent wolf was mine.

The Seth-wolf smiled and lowered the front half of his body, signaling that he wanted me to climb on.

“You want me to climb onto your back?” I asked. “I don’t want to squish you…” He just rolled his eyes, staying in the same position. I slowly approached Seth, still marveling at the beauty of him, and rubbed his head before climbing onto his back. His fur had a wiry feel but was still soft. I wrapped my arms around his neck, or at least as far as I could, taking in the woodsy smell that he had.

Seth then stood up, with more grace than I would have thought a beast of his size could, and broke into a run through the forest. I let out a quiet shriek of delight as we flew through the woods. I might have been scared, but I trusted him; Seth would never let anything hurt me. Eventually, we slowed, coming across another wolf, this one even more massive, though I could hardly see how this was possible. He was a russet color and had an air about him that reminded me of someone…

“Jake?” I called to the other massive creature. The possible Jacob-wolf let out a choking-like laugh, confirming that it really was him. I too laughed as I gazed at his wolf form, like I had Seth’s just a little while earlier. Jacob was magnificent and beautiful too, becoming the personification of myths and legends. As I had been staring absentmindedly at Jacob, I had missed the beginning of a silent conversation between the two massive wolves.

Though I could not see Seth’s face, I could feel him cower slightly at what Jacob had to tell him using the “pack mind”. It seemed as though Jake was yelling at him for something, though I had no idea what. After a few moments, Jacob was gone, running back into the woods to do who knows what. Seth too seemed to be readying to leave though not exactly sure what to do.

Sure enough, Seth turned around into the woods and headed back in the direction he had come. He moved quickly, but not with the same enthusiasm as before. Something Jacob had said to him really bothered him and I was determined to get to the bottom of it. When we reached the clearing in which we started, Seth once again, dropped his front half allowing me to get off.

“Thank you,” I murmured as I slid off, kissing the top of his wolfy head when my feet had safely reached the ground. He trotted off into the safety of the woods, picking up his clothing in his mouth as he went. He emerged a few minutes later, returning in his human form. “That was really cool,” I said as I closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around his waist and laying my head against his warm chest. He automatically wrapped his arms around me too, resting his head on the top of mine. His touch sent more of the electric shocks that were becoming more and more addictive as time went by. I gently eased out of the close confines, wanting to get a better look at this extraordinary guy. Seth met my stare, and I was suddenly lost in his now smoldering gaze.

Acting in a trance-like state, I stretched onto my very tiptoes, wrapping my arms around his neck, still staring into his deep eyes. And then, we were kissing. My lips and his, moving around one another in perfect harmony. I cautiously parted my lips, not totally knowing what I was doing, and touched his bottom lip with the tip of my tongue. He let out a sigh of pleasure, and then somehow, we were on the ground, tangled together. I entwined my fingers with his hair, drawing my self closer yet, our lips moving in a wild passion. Our tongues touched briefly and we both sighed. I had to break away at that point, gasping for air. He too seemed breathless but also like me, he didn’t want the kiss to end. I rolled onto my back, looking into the sky and noticed that it was much darker, meaning it was much later than I had thought.

“I have to go, I think,” I said reluctantly. From where I was, I turned my head and saw the disappointment laid out on his face. “I gotta finish my chores before my mom gets home, otherwise, I might not see you until school starts!” With that, he too got up, grabbing my hand in the process, and lead me back along the route we had come. We made it back to my car in good time, probably because we had jogged, and I hopped in and rolled down the window so I could talk to Seth again. He leaned in, resting his arms onto the window ledge of the car door. “See you later,” I said before giving him a goodbye kiss.

“See you later,” he agreed. Seth moved away from the car so that I could drive without hitting him, and waved as I pulled away. Crap, I thought, I never asked him what was up with Jacob. Tomorrow, I would ask. I sped back to my house and again was lucky to not have any run-ins with the police. I pulled into my regular spot in front of my house on the curb and ran into the house. Hopefully, I would get enough of my chores done before my mom got home, but thankfully, I had already done the hard chores the night before. All was left was to empty the dishwasher, which was an easy task. After that, I set the table, and started a pizza for tonight in the oven.

Dinner was another quick event and I was soon able to escape to my room, to relax a little and sleep before having to face whatever Seth had planned for tomorrow. It was getting late so I decided to force myself to sleep, even though I was still excited from today. I had just got back from the bathroom where I’d gotten into another pair of sweats with a big t-shirt when I heard a vaguely familiar knocking coming from my window. I ran to the window and sure enough, Seth was waiting below, a big smile on his face.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“You said ‘See you later’ and it’s later now, so I figured I’d come over,” he called back, his voice barely louder than a whisper. I rolled my eyes and backed away from the window, waiting for him to come up. Though I was slightly annoyed he had come now, that was weak feeling in comparison to the constant longing that I had now to see him.

Seth popped into my room, landing with a light thud, and straightened himself out, a huge grin still plastered onto his face. He then walked across the room, to my bed and stretched out across half of it. Though I had a queen sized bed, his feet still slightly dangled off the bottom edge of my bed. I smiled and sat next to him on the bed.

“You know, my parents would flip out if they found some random guy sleeping in the same room as their daughter,” I teased, though it was a very true statement.

“Yeah, but do they ever check on you at night?” he asked though he already seemed to know. I thought about that for a moment and realized that my parents really didn’t bother me at night. I got up from my perch on the other side of Seth, locking my door closed as quietly as I could. I walked to the window, shutting it, and then back to Seth on my bed, looking perfectly at ease with his arms behind his head. I climbed under my covers next to him, and snuggled my head against his chest. My once jittery and excited feeling from the day was now gone, replaced by serenity and warmth. I closed my eyes, and I was shortly under the spell of sleep.

6. More Confessions

Grace

As I lay in bed, there was an almost rhythmic knocking coming from somewhere. I groggily threw back the covers and opened my door, expecting maybe my parents or my cat to be waiting on the other side, but no one was there. Weird, I thought climbing back into my bed, maybe I just imagined it. A few seconds later though, the odd knocking noise came again and I was able to determine where it came from this time. My window. I pushed aside my curtain and pulled open the window, half expecting a branch to be the cause of the noise, blowing back and forth from the tree outside my window in the breeze. There was no branch though, so I started to close my window and go back to bed.

“Grace!” I heard someone call in a hushed tone from below me. I peered into the dark night to find a familiarly sized silhouette standing next to my house.

“Seth? Is that you?” I frantically whispered. What was that boy doing out there?!

“Can I talk to you?” he asked.

“Isn’t a phone call enough?” I teased. “Just give me a minute.” I walked to my closet and grabbed a few things to keep my parents from getting suspicious if they decided to check on me. I grabbed a wig from Halloween a few years ago as well as some clothes to stuff under my covers so it would look like I was still there. I dug through my closet some more to find my little fire escape ladder that I had insisted my parents buy when I was five.

“You’re awfully diabolical, aren’t you?” Seth asked from behind me. I nearly jumped out of my skin he scared me so much. I spun around and sure enough, he was in my room, perched on the end of my bed. Seth seemed so out of place here in my little room and yet, he fit so perfectly because my room was the essence of me.

“How’d you get up here?” I asked accusingly.

“The tree,” he said nonchalantly. I just stood there, mouth wide open in shock that he had made it up the scrawny little tree outside and into my room. He just laughed, probably at my ridiculous expression. “So, do you sneak out often or are you just extremely prepared?”

“Just prepared,” I laughed too, still not believing he was here in my room. I quickly tucked the clothes and wig into my sheets and hung the ladder on the edge of my window. I sat next to him on my bed. He was only wearing sweatpants, which normally, I would have thought was weird, but this way, I got to see his fabulous abs. “So, what’s up?” I asked. Seth seemed on edge for some reason and I wanted to get to the bottom of it.

“Let’s go for a walk first,” Seth said, “I don’t want your parents to get suspicious if they hear two voices coming out of your room.”

“Good idea,” I agreed. We both got up off the edge of the bed and walked towards the window. I peered out the window towards the little tree, still not believing that he made it into my room by climbing it. “Are you sure that you got in here by climbing the tree?”

“Here, I’ll prove it,” Seth said, taking a few steps back. I too, moved away from the window, giving him as much space as possible. He ran the few steps he took backwards, flinging himself out my window and landing into the tree. “See?”

“Impressive,” I said, trying to sound blasé, “but I prefer simpler methods of exiting.” I laughed quietly as I swung my legs out the window to reach the ladder and pulled my window almost all the way shut so that if my parents did go into my room, they wouldn’t notice it hanging out of my window. Making my way down the bottom of flimsy ladder, I lost my footing, and started to fall the last few feet to the ground. I covered my mouth stifling a scream as I waited for my tailbone to bruise while hitting the hard earth below. To my surprise, I never hit the ground. Instead, I landed in Seth’s warm arms that were waiting below.

“Simpler, huh?” he teased setting me back onto my feet.

“In theory, yes,” I mumbled, embarrassed with myself. “Thanks for catching me though, tailbone injuries are nasty. I tried volleyball in fifth grade and fell a lot when they tried to teach me fancy stuff to get to the ball.” Seth laughed, though he still seemed a little tense. “So what did you want to talk to me about?” We started walking into the nearby forest a little ways and then he started to talk.

“So you know how you told me some major stuff about you?” Seth started and I nodded. “Well, I kind of have something big to tell you.” He still seemed torn, like he wasn’t sure how to put it. I reached out and rubbed his arm, making him look at me.

“You could tell me anything, you know. I would love you no matter what,” I started to say, trying to comfort him, “er, maybe not if you told me you were like a serial killer or something along the lines of that. Then I might just run away screaming.” My attempt at humor got him smiling which was good, and he continued on.

“Um, well, like I said, this is kind of a big thing and I really hope I don’t freak you out by telling you this…” I waited for him to continue. “I’m sort of a werewolf.” I stopped walking and looked towards him to stare. Was he serious? His face showed no sign of bluffing, just worry, so I rethought what he told me. Werewolf. Somehow, his problem didn’t seem to bother me. I just looked at him, thinking, He could have a second head and I would still like him. He had taken me for who I was, Leukemia and all.

“Okay,” was all I could manage to say. Besides, what were you supposed to say if your boyfriend told you that he was a werewolf? I could see the relief spread across his features, his face smoothing into a smile and his hands unclenching. I smiled too and closed the distance between us, giving him a huge hug.

We found a fallen tree and sat there and he explained everything to me. Seth told how he had imprinted on me, which is the involuntary phenomenon by which shape-shifters, the technical word for the werewolf he was, find their soul mate, and that was why we were so drawn to each other. I nodded from time to time, trying to get my tired brain to wrap around all this new information.

“So, who all is a werewolf?” I asked, extremely curious.

“Well, out of the people you know from the reservation, there’s Jacob, Sam, Quil, Embry, Paul, my sister Leah and a some of the other guys from the reservation too.” He answered. Seth explained how Leah was the only girl to become a werewolf, so they didn’t know much about what to expect for her. Seth also went on to explain the other fundamentals of being a werewolf, like the fact that you didn’t age unless you didn’t phase for a long time, healed quickly, and that he had an average body temperature of 110° Fahrenheit. Still stuck on the amount of werewolves that existed, I decided to ask another question.

“Not trying to be nosy or rude, but why are there so many of you and not just the three that you said were around during the last round of werewolves?” I asked. Seth seemed very hesitant to answer but I encouraged him. “Oh, come on. Do you think I can’t handle it or something? You already told me you were a werewolf, how much weirder could things get?” Although he still seemed hesitant, he told me anyway.

“Werewolves aren’t the only mythical creatures out there. Our natural enemy are vampires, and there were a ton of them around here at one point, so that’s why there’s so many of us,” He said, watching me very closely to see how I would react. I wish he wasn’t because I felt my breathing speed up, as well as the beat of my heart. “Are you okay?” he asked. I nodded but got a queasy feeling. Vampires, I thought. I took a few deep breaths, calming myself before I asked another question.

“Okay, so you said that there were a ton of them around here at one point, what happened to them? Did the pack kill them all…?” I started but I couldn’t continue. The thought of Seth, my Seth, fighting some undead creature that could kill him and drink his blood was unbearable. He kept looking at me, his expression full of concern.

“They’re not all gone,” he started, his eyes growing wide in fear as he took in my horrified expression. Seth quickly continued, “but the ones that live around here don’t kill people, they hunt animals. They’re cool.” I just sat there, eyes wide, mouth open, trying to comprehend everything he had told me.

Seth started to rub my arm like I had to his earlier. His gesture had an instant calming effect on me, giving myself the chance to think rationally. He said they were cool, so they really must be okay if Seth likes them, I thought.

“So what else do I need to know,” I asked, feeling secure under his touch. I added a small smile to really reassure that I was okay now. Seth smiled too, and continued on, this time with things he knew about vampires, which was really neat. He told me how the “vegetarian” vampires who live around here try to blend into the humans so that they can live a more normal existence. I never would have thought of all people that Dr. Cullen would be a vampire! He was practically the opposite of all the things you see in movies about vampires. The coolest part I thought was that some got powers when they got changed, like mind reading and visions of the future.

It started to get late, and I could really feel it. The addition of the earth-rocking information didn’t help either; it made me even more tired. I yawned and Seth suggested that I should go home. I agreed and we got on our way. I was so tired that the arm that he had wrapped around my waist supported practically my whole weight. We got back to my house in less time than I would have imagined, considering that Seth had to carry me. I started to climb the ladder but felt kind of woozy. Strong hands grasped my back, keeping me stable.

“Don’t worry, I’ve gotcha,” he whispered as he climbed onto the ladder after me, keeping one hand on my back as we shimmied our way up to my window. I climbed sleepily in through my now open window, and quickly removed the clothes and wig from under my sheets, shoving them into my closet. I turned to go grab the ladder from the windowsill but Seth was already two steps ahead of me and already had the ladder all folded up.

“You can just shove it into my closet somewhere,” I mumbled as I flopped onto my bed. I truly was exhausted and felt sleep trying to draw me in, though I wasn’t ready yet. Seth sat on the bed next to me while I lay curled up under the covers. The glow of my alarm clock gave me just enough light to see that he was smiling at me. I smiled groggily back as he fished around in his pocket for something.

“Happy belated birthday,” he whispered as he produced a small bag, which must have been what he was looking for in his pocket. I took the little pouch and carefully opened it, pouring the contents of it into my hand. Out fell a sandy colored bracelet, intricately woven with small, earth toned beads. It was absolutely beautiful and would have made me cry if it weren’t for the fact that I was exhausted. Unable to think of a better way to thank him, I stretched up from my place in my pillows and kissed him.

Even though I was tired, the kiss was every bit as magical and fantastic as the first time our lips came into contact. “Thank you,” I murmured when the kiss was done. I slipped the bracelet onto my left hand, examining it in the faint clock light. “So, do I get to see you as a wolf sometime soon?”

Once again, this is just fanfiction, written truly for fun and no harm was meant in the creation of it. This is chapter 5 of my fanfiction, so be sure to read chapters 1-4 plus the preface if you haven't already. Hope you enjoy this but please, refrain from leaving hate mail. Enjoy! :)

5. Visit

Jacob

Damn it, I thought, truly realizing what I had just done. Why don’t we just tell the whole freaking world about all the mythical crap that really exists?

I felt Seth’s absence as he phased back from wolf form. Finally alone. While I didn’t mind Seth and the gang in my head too much, it was nice to be have some peace and quiet. Knowing Sam would be phasing tonight, I sent him an Alpha-to-Alpha message that Seth and I were finished for the night. I turned in the direction of the Cullen’s and broke into a sprint, hurrying to see my Nessie.

When I got to the house, she was sitting on the steps of the porch, waiting. I quickly phased back in the bushes, throwing on the clothes that I had strapped to my ankle earlier. I walked out of the brush at the same moment Nessie realized I was there and she leapt the remaining distance into my outstretched arms.

She touched my face trying to tell me something with her way of communicating. Auntie Alice said that the rest of her schedule was clear for tonight, humor coloring her memory as she remembered Alice storming around the house because she couldn’t ‘see’. I laughed with her as she replayed the little scene over and over again.

“How was your day today, Nessie?” I finally asked, my sides hurting slightly because of the amount of laughing I had done.

Good, but it would have been better if you would have played with me, Nessie thought, slightly irritated.

“You know I wish I could, but I have to do other things in the day,” I replied, though really, I probably could have come over to the Cullen’s place. All I did was hang out at the beach with the pack and Rachel and Grace…

A sudden wave of sadness washed over me remembering Seth’s agony. The sound of her voice telling him of her fate echoed eerily in my head. I have Leukemia and I’m going to die in less than a year… They can give me special treatments and radiation therapy and stuff but I didn’t want it…If I had the treatments, they wouldn’t totally cure me. I’d maybe just live another year, but I wouldn’t quite be myself… The treatments make you weaker and stuff, so I chose to be myself and live out what little time I had left to its fullest…

I shook my head, trying to rid myself of “that”. Nessie was looking up at me from her place in my arms, a puzzled look on her face. She put her hand to my face, remembering me shaking my head, and asked why.

“Oh, it’s nothing,” I quickly lied. She looked at me doubtfully, her little eyes filled with questions, but I quickly changed the subject before she got too curious. “So, what should we do tonight?”

Thankfully, it worked. Nessie thought hard about what she wanted to do. With her hand still on my face, I saw all the possibilities flash through her mind as she came up with them. Tag, hide and seek, dress-up… She finally chose coloring.

“Again?” I teased. Ever since getting her fancy art kit, it was all she seemed to want to do. It even topped dress-up, which usually ranked high on her favorites list.

Nessie lead me into the house, pulling my hand impatiently towards the table in the dining room. I managed to throw a quick wave to some of the others, Carlisle, Emmett, Jasper and Edward, seated in the room, watching some sports game, baseball by the sound of it. They all acknowledged me, waving back. They all seemed to be in a good mood, but Edward seemed to have a troubled look on his face. His team must be losing, I thought as Nessie finally dragged me the rest of the way into the dining room.

Laid on the table was a massive amount of art supplies. Markers, crayons, construction paper and anything else you would ever need and everything else you never heard of was stacked in neat piles on the far edge of the table. Nessie freed my hand to show me some of the things she had worked on today. Her work was impressive for her “age” and even better than mine. She flashed a few pictures in front of me, mostly of flowers and nature. Nessie got to her last picture, a realistic picture of a massive red-brown wolf with a small child riding on his back.

“It’s for you!” she said in her singsong voice. I was stunned. It must have taken her days to make. “Daddy and Auntie Alice only helped a little bit.”

“Thank you, Nessie,” I managed to say, still in a bit of shock that she made that.

“Neat, huh?” a familiar voice asked from in back of me. Bella. “Mind if I join you two?”

“Go on ahead,” I said, gesturing to the chairs around the table. The three of us drew for the rest of the night until Nessie started to get tired. I asked Bella if she was okay with me running Nessie home to their little cottage to sleep, which she was fine with.

“But I’m not tired,” Nessie protested, but a massive yawn gave her away.

“Sure you’re not tired…” I teased, pulling her onto my back.

Nessie and I called goodnight to the others, and were off into the woods. I kept a good jogging pace, hoped over the little river easily, and made it to the cottage in a few minutes. I brought Nessie in, the door was always unlocked, and helped her get ready for bed. When she was ready, I tucked her in and I sat down next to her, on top of the covers.

“Story?” She asked, her eyes pleading with me.

“Alright,” I caved, giving into her, “but only one story.” She smiled a breathtaking smile at me, and got comfortable under the covers. Nessie didn’t like hearing the same story twice, so whenever I got to tuck her in, I usually had to make one up. They were generally pretty cheesy with princes and princesses and all that junk, typical bedtime stories. Tonight though, I felt like something a little different.

“Once upon a time,” I started, Nessie’s lids flying open to roll her eyes at me, “there was this guy, lets call him Steve and he fell in love with this girl, lets call her Gwen, who loved him back but she was… moving away really soon and they didn’t know what to do…” I continued my story, except this one, unlike the one it was based on, had a happy ending. When I finally finished my story, Nessie was asleep and I realized how utterly exhausted I was from the day. I guess I could just rest my eyes here for a minute, I thought. I closed my eyes and fell quickly into the quiet of sleep.

As I prowled the Reservation with Jake, I couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Congrats, Jacob thought, using the pack’s interconnected mind to talk to me.

Thanks, now I don’t feel like the odd man out, I thought back, grinning. It seemed that everyone in the tribe was imprinting. Sam and Emily, Jared and Kim, Quil and Claire, Jacob and Renesmee, and now, Grace and me.

Not everyone has imprinted, Jacob corrected me.

Okay, a lot of us have imprinted. Better?, I thought, nudging Jacob with my head.

Much, he thought, teasing. I tried to block Jacob out, thinking more about Grace and what she told me today. ‘…I’m going to die in less than a year.’ Echoed eerily in my head. Only one year of happiness, then my soul mate was going to be taken away from me forever.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Jacob thought, stopping midstride to look at me. I too stopped, sadness and grief overwhelming me. I played back the whole conversation to him and waited for his response. Shit, man. That sucks.

You’re telling me, I answered bitterly. I feel terrible, not just because she is gonna die so soon, she told me everything, even though I could see how much it hurt her. I feel like I’m keeping things from her by not telling her about me. I paused, thinking about how exactly I should go about asking him what I wanted.

You want to tell her about the werewolf thing? Jacob thought, hearing my thought process and answering before I could really put out the question. He didn’t seem too pleased, but not exactly pissed either. You’re right, I’m not super happy with the idea of more people knowing our secret, but I can see where you’re coming from… I think she could handle it.

So, I thought, could I go tell her now?

I guess, it’s not too late. I was gonna call it quits and go see Renesmee… Jacob started to say but I sprang into action, dashing through the woods to her house that I had scoped out last night, completely ignoring everything else he had to say. I quickly phased back, throwing on the sweats I had grabbed before patrol tonight, wishing that I had brought more to wear than just a pair of pants. I scooped up a few small stones before walking under her window. Here goes nothing, I thought, lightly tossing one of the rocks up to meet the glass of her window on the second floor.

Also realize that I wrote this story with the intention of it following directly after Breaking Dawn...

3. Confession

As I woke up the next morning, I got ready faster than usual.

“Where’s the fire?” Mom teased as I rushed down the stairs, nearly knocking her down in the process.

“No fire,” I chuckled, dashing into the kitchen to quickly stuff my face with food. “I guess I’m just in a rush to hang out with Rachel again.” Seth too, but I wasn’t about to admit that out loud to her, she got all weird when it came to boys. I wasn’t very experienced on the boyfriend front. Any date that I’d had at a school dance was just a good friend, nothing serious, so if I were to tell my mom that I finally had a possibly serious relationship after just one day, she might flip out. I quickly left the house before she could manage to ask me any other questions.

During the drive back to the reservation, I reviewed a condensed version of the events of last night. Only Rachel and Billy knew about my… illness. The boys on the Reservation tended to tower over me. I liked Seth, and there was a good chance, based on his actions last night, that he liked me too.

I stopped reminiscing when I got to the faded red house, for fear that I might blurt out my feelings by accident. I slammed my car door shut and hurried up the steps to the house, eager to get on with the day. I rang the doorbell and no more than 10 seconds later, Jacob answered the door.

“Hi, Grace, come on in,” Jacob greeted. “I’ll go get Rachel.”

“Thanks,” I said as I sat on the couch in the living room.

“Hey, Girlie!” Rachel called as she came into the room.

“Hey! Thanks again for having me over last night. It was a nice distraction.”

“I’ll say, I think Seth distracted you tons,” she teased. My face flushed bright pink. Had it really been so obvious?

“Yeah, well, he started it,” was all I could manage to mumble in defense.

“Don’t be embarrassed, I think it’s cute,” she said, touching my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me.

“Yeah, yeah,” I giggled, because while I was ticked off that she pointed it out, there was no way I could be mad at her.

---

The three of us, Jacob, Rachel and I, made our way down to the beach to meet up with some of the other kids from the reservation. It was warm day with the sun beating unusually bright from the sky. Some of the kids were dodging waves, while others stuck around the remains of the bonfire from last night.

On the driftwood bench closest to us was Seth, a huge grin plastered across his face. I couldn’t help but grin back; his expression was so infectious.

“Good to see you again,” I said as I wrapped my arms around his waist. He seemed just as surprised as I did that I had hugged him, but eventually warmed to my presence and hugged me back. The shock I received from his touch was not unpleasant or nearly as startling as it was the first time, it now was just a warm, tingling sensation that seemed to engulf my entire body.

“Good to see you too,” he responded. I looked up to catch the last of a sheepish grin that was pointed in Jacob’s direction. I peered back to see Jacob grinning smugly at Seth. Probably just a reaction to me, I thought to myself. The four of us settled around the bonfire remains and chatted with the other kids there who seemed completely oblivious to our little exchange.

“Wanna go see the tide pools?” Seth asked me, an eager look on his face.

“Sure!” I answered. Seth then seized my hand and started to gently pull me towards the trees. I flashed a quick smile towards Rachel that Jacob caught and chuckled a little at. Rachel then proceeded to playfully punch him in the arm, though he barely seemed to notice.

The tide pools were only a short distance away and perched on slightly higher ground than the rest of the water. I freed my hand from Seth’s strong grasp to peer into the little puddles and saw some small fishes, sea urchin, and seaweed. It was beautiful. I liked to think of the tide pools as ever-changing fish tanks, because when the tides came in and reclaimed the little pools, they replaced and added to the current collection, making them different every time. It took me a moment to realize that Seth was no longer next to me; he had found a rock overlooking the ocean and was sitting there, enjoying the view.

“Mind if I join you?” I asked and smiled when he looked back at me.

“Go on ahead,” he replied, patting a spot on the rock next to him for me to sit on. I walked around him, only moving my eyes from his to check my footing. When I finally made it to his side, I sat as close as I could and he wrapped his arm around me. Something about him just made me so comfortable and secure, like nothing could ever hurt me, not even my Leukemia…

That settled it; I had to tell him about my illness. He deserved better than some sickly girl who wasn’t long for this world. I would tell him about me and if he didn’t want me anymore, I would understand, but if he still wanted me, then I was the world’s luckiest person ever. Before I possibly sent him screaming into the woods, I wanted to do something.

I looked up at him from my spot nestled against him and found that he was looking at me. Make your move you idiot, I screamed at myself. I slowly moved my head closer to his and he followed where I was going. I closed my eyes, waiting for impact, and our lips touched. Fireworks went off in my head.

It was a just a sweet, innocent kiss, but I swear, it was the most magical feeling I had ever experienced. I didn’t want it to end, but, like my destined ending was, it came much too soon. I sat there, breathless, staring at the marvelous guy sitting next to me. I had to tell him everything. It was the least I could do.

“Okay, so I have something to tell you,” I solemnly. He just looked at me and nodded, confusion and worry crossing his face. I took a deep breath before continuing, hoping it would keep my emotional wall steady. “I have Leukemia and I’m going to die in less than a year. I really like you- you’re a great guy- but it’s truly unfair of me to lead you on like this, when I have an expiration date written on the bottom of my foot. I would understand if you didn’t want to be with me anymore, because like I said before, you deserve better.” He didn’t say anything but I saw the pain flood his face, draining away any remaining happiness from our kiss.

Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t handle this, so I started to pull away, ready to run into the woods if I started to cry. He didn’t seem to want me to go, because his grip tightened on me as I struggled to get away. I looked back up to see that the pain was lessened by another emotion. Concern.

“Can’t they do anything to help you?”

“Yes and no. They can give me special treatments and radiation therapy and stuff but I didn’t want it.”

“Why?” he asked, more emotions joining his pain and concern. Shock, confusion, anger.

“Well,” I stammered, “If I had the treatments, they wouldn’t totally cure me. I’d maybe just live another year, but I wouldn’t quite be myself. The treatments make you weaker and stuff, so I chose to be myself and live out what little time I had left to its fullest.”

I waited for his response to what I had just said, but nothing came. Instead, he took my face between his strong, warm hands and kissed me again. This kiss was different, still wonderful and magical but there was an urgent passion that moved his lips with mine now.

He was the one who had to break the kiss. I sat there, gasping for air, as he seemed to compose himself.

“I think you’re an amazing person, Grace, and, though this may sound cheesy, I love you just the way you are.” Seth sincerely said while looking deep into my eyes. He was right about the cheesy part, but I could see the pain that still lingered around him, so I didn’t mention it. Instead, I pulled his face into another kiss, a thank you to him for being such a beautiful person both inside and outside.

---

We left the rock by the tide pools, holding hands, and strolled through the woods, asking each other questions.

“Birthday?” I asked.

“September 2, 1992,” he answered. “And you?”

“August 20, 1992,” I replied.

“That was last week, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah, and I got my license so that definitely made it a sweet sixteen.” We continued on like that, asking all sorts of questions, until we made it back to the beach. The others around the bonfire had gotten some food and were using the new fire to cook. Seth and I took one of the unoccupied pieces of driftwood and Jacob passed us some clean sticks to toast our food on. I looked at the food that had been gathered and was again shocked by the massive quantity.

The food, once again, was gone quickly and the boys got the most of it. A small fight broke out between Paul and some of the other boys who claimed that he got most of the food.

“I’ll be right back,” Seth said, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. He then went over Pau and the others to join in the play-fight. They group of boys ended up in a dog pile with Paul squished on the bottom and Seth lounging lazily on top. He shot me a wide grin and I couldn’t help smiling back.

The afternoon continued on like that, the boys roughhousing while the girls and I watched, laughing at the crazy things they did from time to time. Someone had pushed Jacob into the water and he was going around, trying to get the others wet. He and Seth were going at it for a while, Jacob grabbing at him while Seth nimbly avoiding his wet grasp. The scene sent Rachel and I into a laughing fit that distracted Seth a fraction of a second, and Jacob took advantage of that moment to draw him into a huge bear hug.

“Yuck!” Seth muttered, now sopping wet too. He turned to me, a smile breaking across his face as he started to walk toward me. I quickly saw what he was thinking.

“You wouldn’t…” I accused, backing away from the bonfire pit slowly.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” he innocently exclaimed as his pace quickened towards me. Not trusting him, I turned around into a full sprint towards the path that lead back to the Black’s house. He caught me in mere seconds, pulling me into a wet embrace.

“Ewww,” I giggled. I looked up to see he still had a silly expression on his face. How could I be mad at that? I stretched up on my tiptoes to give him a kiss on the cheek, followed by a playful punch to his arm. “Don’t do that again.”

---

It got dark sooner than I wanted it to, but I reluctantly went home, not wanting to push my luck with my parents. Seth didn’t want me to go either, but I made plans with him to go see a movie with him tomorrow night. The drive home was easy and when I got home, my parents didn’t bother me too much, just asked if I had fun, which I did, and I went to my room with a sloppily made sandwich to eat for dinner. When I was done I got ready for bed, putting on my favorite sweats, washing up, and curling under the cover, waiting for sleep to take over.

2. Party

The little red house gradually began to fill with more and more people- or was it just because the people were getting bigger? Yeah, it was definitely just the people getting bigger. In front of me were four men, all of which had to be at least six feet tall. The middle one seemed vaguely familiar…

“Hey guys,” Rachel greeted them, “Jake, do you remember Grace? Rebecca and I babysat her when you two were little.” I remembered him now. Jacob Black, the twin’s younger brother, who was only a little older than me. When did he get so big? He was always bigger than me but I’d never imagined him ever getting that big… I was so absorbed in my thoughts that I almost missed his question.

“How’re you doing, Grace? It’s been a while.”

“Well, I’ve just been kinda busy lately,” I said truthfully because I was busy, he just didn’t need to know why and what for. “It’s good to see you though!”

“Good to see you too… Oh, I should probably introduce you to the guys so you’re not totally lost,” Jacob chuckled. “This is Quil, and Embry, and Paul,” he said, gesturing to each as he called their name. Each of them, including Jacob, had short black hair, dark eyes, and seemed to be extremely and impressively muscular under the clothes they wore. Jacob was the tallest, closer to seven feet tall than six, but they all were huge compared to me at only five foot seven. And I had always thought I was tall!

More people eventually came, Sam and Emily with her niece Claire, who seemed to be very fond of Quil, Quil’s Grandfather Quil Atera Sr., some other rather large looking boys, Collin and Brady were two of the names I caught, and the Clearwater family, consisting of Sue Clearwater, her daughter Leah, and her son Seth, who was cute, really cute. He had to be about my age but he too, like most of the boys on the Quileute Reservation nowadays, seemed huge.

The pizzas arrived and at first I thought they were kidding, because laid in front of me on the table had to be about ten mega-sized pizzas. I must have stood there, looking as shocked as I felt because Rachel laughed as she joined me in front of the table.

“What? Is your favorite not on the table, or did you think that we were gonna force feed this all to you?” she teased. “Don’t look so surprised. These boys can scarf down amazing amounts of food.” And sure enough, she was right. The pack of boys managed to devour about nine of the ten huge pizzas, I estimated. The “normal” people, like me, must have gotten less than a full pizza’s worth though, but I wasn’t complaining- I was stuffed.

Our little party continued on but tended to flow onto the porch after we ate because the group was so big. We all talked and joked around for quite some time. I formally met Rachel’s boyfriend, Paul, who was a little bit of a troublemaker but super nice to me. I shot Rachel a quick thumbs up of approval when Paul wasn’t paying attention. That sparked a snort from Jacob, who got a vicious glare from Rachel. I giggled too, unbelieving that Rachel could be scary when necessary, because I had never seen it growing up. We continued to talk, but I kept getting the feeling that I was being watched, so I peeked out of the corner of my eye to see what was up.

Sure enough, someone was watching me- Seth. I hardly knew him but I did feel an attraction to him and not the normal annoyance I should have felt since someone was staring. Think rationally, I commanded myself. There was no chance that he could feel the same way about me- I was totally average. My skin was a fair pink color, which looked pasty compared to the group’s golden tone, curly brown hair, and blue eyes, my favorite feature, that changed from icy gray-blue to a blue-green color, depending on what I wore. He couldn’t be watching me because he thought I was cute, he must just think I’m weird.

Right about then, people started breaking off, going their separate ways but not necessarily home. I saw Rachel and Paul head off towards First Beach along with a couple of others. Suddenly, it was just Seth and I (he was still staring, by the way) on the porch and the quiet that followed was getting really awkward, really fast. I decided, since he didn’t seem to want to talk first, that I would break the silence.

“Hey, I don’t think we really met yet, but I’m Grace,” I said, hoping that sound would make him stop staring. Thankfully it worked.

“Yeah, I guess we didn’t really meet yet, I’m Seth,” he replied, still in a slight daze. “You wanna go walk on the beach? It looks really cool right about now.” Was he flirting? I couldn’t tell, but I knew an opportunity when I saw one. Even if he didn’t like me, it would still be nice to know another face on the reservation if I came back. The fact that he was really cute helped in the decision making process too…

“Sure!” I responded, a little too enthusiastically. He didn’t seem to notice my excitement, but I sure caught his. My answer seemed to make his eyes light up. I was thrilled. Maybe he really did like me. Only one way to find out, I thought. “Let’s go!”

We walked along the side of the house, close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off his skin, to the faded path that leads to the beach. I could remember being little and demanding to get piggyback rides to and from the beach but the twins didn’t seem to mind. They used to time each other to see who was faster carrying me. Remembering such happy times made me laugh a little which caused a puzzled look to cross Seth’s face.

“What’s so funny?” he asked in a tone that had equal parts curiosity, humor, and worry.

“Oh, just remembering things from when I was littler. I used to demand piggyback rides from the twins down this trail when they used to watch me,” I told him. I wish I hadn’t, but it felt oddly comfortable to tell him. If it had been another of my friends, I probably would have been beyond embarrassed. I looked backwards to Seth to catch his reaction. No hysterical laughter or mocking, he just smiled a heart-stopping smile. I paused unknowingly, staring like a moron at the beautiful person behind me. He didn’t seem to notice my stop so he kept on walking, eventually bumping into me, but with a smaller impact than I would have thought possible for a person of his size. I started to tumble, but two strong arms caught me before I could fall, pulling me close to his warm body. Electricity seemed to envelope me, seeping all the way down to my bones. Instinctually, I gasped pulling away from his hot embrace, though another voice inside me wanted to stay in his grasp forever.

“Sorry about that,” Seth apologized, embarrassed. “I didn’t realize that you stopped soon enough. I didn’t mean to knock you over.”

Hmm, I thought, had he felt that jolt too? Well, if he had, he wasn’t about to tell me now.

“S’okay,” I managed to say, still in shock. We walked the remaining length of the pathway, ending up on the sand of the beach. There was a bonfire set up around a circle of bleached white driftwood where the majority of the kids from the Black’s house had gone. It was surprisingly cold for a late August night, so I chose the log closet to the fire and Seth sat next to me. We had walked in right as one of the older kids started to tell a ghost story. I had already heard it, some scary-ish story about some made-up murderer, but I unconsciously scooted closer to Seth on the log anyway. He didn’t seem to mind but for that I was grateful- he was surprisingly warm which kept away the chill of the summer night.

By the end of the not-so-scary-story, I was an inch or two away from Seth. I tried to look nonchalant as I got up and stretched, pretending not to notice the short distance between the two of us. It was getting pretty late, though I had no desire to leave, but I searched for Rachel among the driftwood benches around the fire anyway, to tell her that I had to go.

“Hey Rach, I gotta go, it’s getting kinda late,” I reluctantly said.

“You have to leave so soon?” Seth asked from somewhere behind me. I slowly turned to face the gorgeous boy standing a few feet away.

“Yeah, I don’t want my mom to worry,” I halfway turned back to face Rachel, “but I’ll stop by again tomorrow if you’re not up to anything.”

“That would be great,” she replied. “I think we still have some catching up to do.” She pulled me into what had to be the millionth hug of the night from her.

“See you tomorrow!” I called over my shoulder as I started for the path. I managed to get only a few paces into the tree-lined path when a familiar electric sensation closed around my hand. I gasped slightly as my eyes slowly followed up the length of the muscular arm that had captured my hand.

“I thought I’d walk you to your car. I’d hate for you to run into the boogeyman of that lame story,” he joked, still holding my hand, though his presence did make me feel more secure.

“I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who found it so stupid. I mean, there’s no such thing as monsters and all that stuff,” I teased, but he seemed to tense slightly, as if he knew better. “If you don’t believe me, you can ask my mom. She was the one who proved that to me when I was four.” He laughed loudly as we walked the rest of the path, still holding hands.

We made it back to my little car, a beat up 1994 Toyota Camry, too quickly, but to my delight, Seth stayed while I started the car and rolled down my window.

“So, will I see you tomorrow?” he asked, though I bet he already knew the answer.

“Mhmm, I’ll be by the Blacks’ sometime tomorrow morning.”

“Cool, see you tomorrow,” he called, still not moving away.

“Bye,” I said as I backed out of the dirt driveway, waving goodbye to Seth before putting my car into drive and zooming away.

Once again, this is just fanfiction, written truly for fun and no harm was meant in the creation of it. This is Chapter 1 of my fanfiction and I also included the preface that I already put on my wikiblog, in case you missed it. Hope you enjoy this but please, refrain from leaving hate mail on this. Enjoy! :)

Preface

"Live every day as if it were your last and then some day you'll be right." ~H.H. "Breaker" Morant

Life is really short. Sometimes, life tends to fly past you. Deadlines and expiration dates, like the one that seems to be printed on the bottom of my foot, seem to speed it up even more. Fabulous.

1. Bucket List

Most kids would take the opportunity summer gives them to sleep in. Not me, or at least not anymore.

Ever since being diagnosed with Leukemia at the beginning of the summer, I’ve used every moment I could to do something productive. I wouldn’t have to worry so much about time if I’d decided to take the radiation treatments, but who wants to be weak for two years when I could be strong and myself for a little over one? So, time manager had become my job in the last few months. I made myself a bucket list, like that movie with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, of things I really wanted to do before… well, I didn’t want to think of the final bit just yet.

My list consisted of fairly basic things to do like travel out of the country (which wasn’t too hard considering I live in Forks, Washington. My family and I just drove over the border!), going to Disneyland with my best friends, and saying goodbye to all my friends and family. I figured I should start with those nearby, so I had a little get together with my friends filled with memories, laughing, and a lot of crying. I even caught some of my tough guy buddies shedding a tear or two. My next stop on my trip of local friends and family was to the LaPush reservation to see Rachel Black who I’d heard was back in town. She and her twin, Rebecca, used to babysit me when I was little. They were my idols and acted like older sisters to me, which was nice considering I had no siblings of my own.

The drive to the reservation was a familiar one because Mom and Dad would drop me off there when I was little and in more recent years, that’s where my friends and I would hang out. I pulled up to the faded red house that hadn’t changed one bit since my last trip there many years ago. I got a little nervous walking up to the door, thinking I should have called before I came. Oh well, too late now, I thought as I rang the bell. Luckily, Rachel was the one who answered.

“Hi Rachel,” I said giving her an impish smile.

“Grace? Is that you?” she asked as she pulled me into a huge hug. “How are you doing? I haven’t seen you in practically forever!”

“Yeah. It’s been too long since we’ve seen each other! I could be better, but at the moment, I guess I’m doing ok,” I confessed.

“What do you mean by that?” Rachel questioned, a puzzled expression settling on her face as she lead me inside to the couch. Well, better to tell her what’s wrong with me and get it over with it, I thought.

“Um, I don’t really know how to put this quite, but I have Leukemia and I’m sorta on a bucket list trip before… er… well you know…”

“Oh, Grace…” she whimpered, dragging me into another hug. Generally, I was a strong person in the sense that I could keep myself together. Like the day when I was diagnosed with Leukemia, I didn’t cry but my mom sure as heck did. All the times when I was little and fell off my bike when Rebecca and Rachel were watching me, I would refuse to cry. Somehow, being here in Rachel’s embrace, my armor cracked and a flood of emotion, that should have shown up sooner, poured out. We must have cried like that for a little while before someone nervously cleared his throat from the kitchen doorway.

Rachel was the one to break the hug, “Oh, uh, hi dad. You remember Grace, right? Rebecca and I used to babysit her.” The man with the russet colored skin and dark eyes, Billy Black, my memory informed me, seemed to cautiously taking in the situation so that he could proceed without another onslaught of emotion.

“Of course I do, she and her friends are around LaPush a lot. Speaking of which, where’ve ya been these past few weeks?” Billy asked, obviously trying to lighten the mood. That brought another wave of hysterics but my wall had been repaired, perhaps from the big melt down, so I smoothed over my face thinking, might as well tell him my problem too, as I began to talk to Billy.

“Well, I’ve kinda been busy lately… lots of things that I needed to finalize before…” I broke, my calm façade faltering slightly when thinking about why I truly had to do this. I continued, my words coming in a rush, “I have Leukemia and I’ve only got a year to make things right with everyone, so I’m trying to reconnect with everyone I can to say… goodbye.” I hadn’t noticed, because I had closed my eyes sometime while I had spoke, but Billy had wheeled himself next to me, a sincerely sorry look on his face.

“I’m so sorry”

“Thanks, but I’m making the best out of a bad situation. Without contracting this, I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to do things like go to Disneyland or go out of the country or even meet up with old friends and family. It brought me back in touch with Rachel and I’m really glad for that,” I admitted. It was totally true though, because over time, I’d forgotten how much I’d loved Rachel. Without my “big sister(s)”, there was a hole in my life, as cheesy as it may sound.

So the three of us talked and caught up with each other for a while. Rachel was done with college and she had a boyfriend named Paul, but how she referred to him, it seemed like he would be a fiancée soon enough, and I insisted I meet him. Billy hadn’t been up to much, “same old, same old,” as he’d said. I updated the two of them on my life up until the diagnosis. I told them about how I was starting sophomore year of high school and how I was super excited that I’d gotten my drivers license already since my birthday was in late August.

Before long, it started to get dark out and I suggested that I should probably start heading home.

“Why don’t you stay for dinner, Grace,” Billy insisted. “We’re having pizza and some of the others from the reservation are going to be coming over soon too.”

“Oh, thanks, but I don’t want to intrude on anything…” I really didn’t want to go, but I didn’t want to have to confront so many people I may or may not remember.

“Don’t worry about that,” Billy assured me, “I’m sure everyone will love seeing you again. It’s been so long!”

“And Paul will be there so you’ll get to meet my boyfriend!” Rachel added, excitement colored her tone.

“Awesome! I’d love to stay but could I borrow your phone though, just to call my mom and make sure she’s okay too?” I asked. Rachel handed me the phone and my mom answered on the second ring. She was totally cool about me eating at the Blacks’ house and asked that I say hi to everyone for her. After hanging up the phone, I something urgent popped into my head that I had to tell Billy and Rachel.

“Would you both do me a favor and not tell anyone about my… condition?”

I am currently working on multipe drafts for fanfiction and want a little help in deciding which I should devote more time to at the moment and finish up (or at least write more of).
