Chapter 5

Decisions

The Cullens were everywhere. They watched me so closely... It was so eerie. Every inch of my body was itching to transform; I could feel the wolf tearing me apart inside, aching to be freed. In fact, it was so intense that the only thing keeping me from doing so was the thought that Jay was only a short walk away. I ignored the eyes on me and continued after Carlisle. The scent of them was almost painful at the point. However, one scent was different- it smelled human... Almost.

It seemed like it took forever but we finally got there after I was lead through a huge maze-like house. Jay was lying in a hospital type bed, pale and unconscious. A heart monitor beeped next to him at a seemingly normal pace and a tube was up his nose. The room he was in was large and open. Through the windows, I could see the green forest against a great, orange sunset which was partly hidden by wispy clouds. I couldn't stare through the trees for very long. I was scared in case I caught sight of Sam or another wolf in the distance.
Clumsily, I stumbled over to Jay's side. I pulled up a chair and sat next to him, taking his white, cold and lifeless hand. His chest rose and fell, the machine beeped. For some reason, I had a terrible feeling that it was all faked. I felt although he was no longer with me.
I was being stupid. Of course he was.
A blood-stained bandage was wrapped around his bare chest. The blanket came up to just after his wrists. I couldn't look at the injury at all. The guilt just swirled and boiled inside me like some kind of medieval witch's brew.
By the door, Carlisle hesitated before speaking, "I'll leave you two alone now."
I didn't even look up as he walked out.
Seconds turned into minutes. Jay didn't stir at all. I felt like I should talk to him a little. So I did. "Jay," I said. "Please. I don't know if you can hear me, but..." I trailed off. It felt like I was talking to thin air. Instead, I began to stroke his hand with my thumb.
How would I explain all this to the pack? One of their priorities was protecting the humans. I had almost torn one's throat out. What would I tell Jay's family? They would be worried... How could I explain this? Use Sam's excuse? Oh, yes, I can imagine that conversation going well.
"Oh hello there Jay's parents, I'm afraid to tell you that your son had been mauled by a bear."
Of course, I'd say it better than that. However, how would I answer all the expected questions? Why was he in the forest? Why didn't he go straight to hospital? Why did the bear attack him?
I sighed out loud. Too many questions... They were clogging my brain space.
Jay hadn't moved an inch. I didn't want to leave. There was another option, but I wasn't that desperate.
Or was I?
Suddenly, I realised I was. Jay was my life. I loved him. The other option was to talk to the Cullens about it. I knew they were good at making things up- cover stories, excuses, made up locations, people and conversations. Maybe if I asked them, they would help me...
I shook my head quickly even though no one was there to see me do it. Cullens helping me? Urgh! I must have been crazy. The guilt must have been getting to me. They were nothing but a bunch of parasites. I tried to think about something else as I gazed back towards Jay, lifeless and still.

An hour passed and I had sadly spent most of it staring at Jay, letting the worry and panic flow freely, silently begging him with every single thought I could to wake up. He didn't.
Occasionally, I heard shuffles downstairs. I heard small conversations sometimes. They all seemed to involve hunting plans or stupid things that I didn't even need to know. It was obvious they were trying to avoid talking about me. They knew I would be listening.
I had been thinking about the "other option". What if it was the only option? I was bad at thinking of excuses. All of the ones I had come up with were pointless. In the end, I decided to ask the Cullens. Besides, once they help me, I never have to talk to the smelly leeches again.

I walked downstairs and the small flickers of conversation melted away as I went. I heard movement as they shifted position. I turned around to find all their eyes on me. Well, four of them. There was only four in the room. I had been told the names before but I kept forgetting. It was something I thought I never needed to know. I knew Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Bella and Nessie, their baby- a half human, half vampire, I think. The one Jacob had imprinted on.
Carlisle was one of the four in the room and he was with Esme. They were standing closest, both smiling welcomingly (probably fake too). They were side by side a few steps away from two vampires who I had seen before, but forgotten their names.
One was tall, strong and tough looking. He was giving me a positively evil glare and was leaning forward in a defensive position. His hair was dark and cropped short and he has a mischievous feature in his face. I admit it, he scared me... Well, angered me.
The other one was standing a metre or two away, partially hidden by a sofa, his hand resting stiffly upon the top of it. He was tall and lean with honey blonde hair. He didn't show much expression at all as he looked at me. He wasn't threatening, just... Odd.
I stopped at the bottom of the stairs, returning my gaze to Carlisle who was still smiling... Urgh. How was I supposed to start this off?
I said the first thing I thought of. "Um... Hey? I have a bit of a problem..."

Chapter 4

Accident

I ran as fast as my wolf legs would carry me across the thick sand. It clung to my fur and sprayed up as I bounded, leaving large craters that were my paw prints. I needed to go back to clear them away but there was no time now. Less than five seconds later, I was in the forest, my paws thudding on dirt and grass. My instincts told me that only Jared and Sam were shifted. The other seventeen members must have been busy.
Ellie? I heard Sam's thoughts to me. You alright?
I thought hard about what had happened back on the beach- The entire conversation and my last sight of Jay before I shifted. Then him after I did so. I remembered seeing him standing there, his right hand extended, shaking, and his left hand clinging to his blood soaked shirt. Then he had simply crippled to the ground in shock.
I'd hurt him...
There was a moment of silence after that before Jared's thoughts came sailing to me. Wow, Ellie. So what are you doing in the forest?
I need to calm down. I can't shift back on the beach. Every time I look at him... It makes me angrier. It happens a lot, Jared, don't worry. I'll get over it. I kept my thoughts composed.
Good luck, sis. Sam thought.
Thanks.
I started a slow down. If I kept on running, I probably would have ended up on Cullen land. That was something I really didn't want. My paw thuds began to get lighter against the dirt. I then padded into a meadow and my legs softly brushed against the waving grass as I slowed to a walk. The sun was beating down on my fur. At least it would be easy to spot vampires before I could smell them. The thought of the scent made me get a sick, twisting feeling in my stomach- or was that guilt?
I sat down in the clearing and began to try and get my thoughts into orderly piles. First of all, I had to meet the pack again tonight. I'd meet Sam at home later on and ask him what time was ok. Secondly, I had to find out if Jay was alright. It was necessary to shift back as soon as possible in order to return to the beach. Also, I had to get rid of my paw prints before someone ended up seeing them. I planned to ask him not to talk about the conversation for a few days. At least until I was sure I could handle it.
I stayed there for a few minutes then began to breathe more evenly. Seconds later, I began to make my way back to Sam's house. It was right next to the forest- not far from where I was sitting. As I paced, I felt myself shift back. There was another soft whoosh of warm air and I felt my fur disappear and my limbs grow back to normal size. My front legs transformed to arms and I was on two legs again. I grabbed one of the towels that was hanging off the porch fence and covered myself up with it. Emotionless, I climbed the steps and walked in the front door, using the spare key Sam had given me in case I needed a quick getaway. No one was in the house; Emily must have gone out and Sam was in the forest with Jared.
I went upstairs and grabbed a few spare clothes of mine that Sam had put in a box for me. It was a pair of denim shorts with a plain white T-shirt. After I got changed, I dashed back out as quickly as I could and hurried to the beach.

I went back the way I came, brushing away my giant prints with my feet as I got there. Slowly, I followed them, making sure no one else had been there and possibly saw them. Luckily, no one had. I managed to cover up most of the prints before I saw something I hoped never to see.
I had misjudged how bad Jay's injuries were. I thought it was just a small scratch! There he was, lying in the sand, the surrounding grains a rich red colour, soaked with blood. I ran over and fell uncontrollably to my knees, shock beginning to take over my body. It had only been about twenty minutes and half of his blood was already gone. Relief flooded through me as I felt a heartbeat under my hand on his chest. I picked him up effortlessly and carried him swiftly to the Cullen's house, ignoring the wetness of his blood on my arms. The hospital was too far away to run so far. I crossed the border and I saw a quick blur of figures in front of me almost at once. Tears streaked down my face and I started to loudly sob. My vision became blurred. I couldn't believe what I had done! Rapidly, I brought him to the floor and left him there. Not even looking up at the silhouettes, I shouted for help to whoever they were. Soon enough, he was taken away from me and I was left, scared, hurt and alone, outside in the forest, the reek of vampires stinging my human nose.

Even though I had washed my hands in a stream, all I could see on them was Jay's blood- crimson, thick and fresh from the wound. I sat there texting my mum to tell her what had happened. Although I should have, I hadn't talked to her since I had left for the fight, which I had lied to her about. All I seemed to do was lie to her. The message I sent was very long and explained just about everything- I trusted her not to tell anyone about it. When I put my phone away, I sunk to a sitting position against a tree and glanced at my watch. Seven twenty six. About half an hour ago was when I had brought Jay here. I glanced towards the door they had taken him through- I was sitting near the porch in my human form. Nothing stirred inside but I knew they were there. I could hear faint, muffled speech. I sighed and laid my head against the rough bark. The scent wafting towards me was willing me to shift. I didn't feel safe in my human form, but I knew I had to stay this way. I didn't want Jay to see me in my wolf body.

Time went by like cars on a motorway. Every time I looked at my watch, another ten minutes seemed to be added on.
An hour later, I was just drifting into a snooze when a man came to a door. He had blonde hair and a kind, but stern sort of expression. His eyes shone amber and I recognised him at once. I tried not to wrinkle my nose at the scent.
Carlisle Cullen.
I stumbled clumsily to my feet and the words came flying out like bats out of a dark cave. "Is he alright? How bad were his injuries? Can he speak to me? Do I have to leave? Can I see him?"
Carlisle raised his palm to me. "Ellie, is it?"
I nodded impatiently. I didn't care about what he called me, as long as Jay was alright.
"Jay is in a stable condition. He lost a lot of blood, but he'll be fine in time."
I let out a long sigh of relief. This was good news. "Can I talk to him?"
"He's not awake yet. You may see him, but I'll have to see if that's okay with my family first. You're on our land."
"Alright. Please hurry up." I almost pleaded the last part. I didn't care what the leeches thought of me, I just wanted to see Jay.
I watched as he walked back inside with no emotion on his face. I imagined the conversation inside. They probably plotted to kill me as soon as I went in. I ached to transform into my wolf self and listen to the conversation- my human ears were useless compared to my wolf ones.
But I couldn't shift. What if Jay woke up and saw me?
A moment later, the door creaked open again and Carlisle came to the door. "You may come in." He said.
I would have hesitated if I didn't know what was waiting for me. I knew they could be planning to kill me. However, I was willing to take the risk. Deciding what to do, I tried not to let the scent get to me as I walked through the doorway to Hell.

Enraged

When I returned from the forest, I phased back, got changed, grabbed a quick sandwich and headed to Jay's house. Earlier, I had heard Paul's thoughts suggesting that he had brought him back so I didn't need to ask.
I hadn't seen him since he'd been dragged off by those stupid gothic leeches. My phone's inbox was empty even though I had sent about five messages already. I had to see him to make sure he was ok and nothing bad had happened. A tight feeling formed in my chest. The 'what if' questions began to whiz around in my head.
What if he was injured badly? What if they almost drained the life out of him? What if I misheard Paul's thoughts before and he was still there? What if...
I couldn't even bare to think about the last option as I walked along the path wearing my hood up. The storm had come and passed, leaving only heavy rain and winds in its wake. The hood would at least stop the rain hitting against my face. The aches had started to get fainter in my chest and leg.

Less than half an hour later, I strode up to his door. His house was a small, white bungalow which fitted in nicely with the surrounding ones. There was quite a long wait before someone answered my knocks. Hope built up inside me until I saw Jay's brother, Ruben, standing there.
I tried not to look too let down when I attempted to smile, "Hey Ruben... Where's Jay?"
"He went out. Said he was going to find you." Ruben answered in an expressionless tone. He was fourteen, average sized and had blonde hair with bright blue eyes. He didn't look like Jay much, except he had the same smile and his eyes were shaped the same. He was one year younger than his brother.
"Did he say where he went?" I asked. A gust of wind bashed against me but I wasn't effected. I was too strong for the wind to bring me down.
"Yeah, I got a message off him saying you weren't at your house so he went to the beach."
I let out a sigh. That was just my luck. I walked all the way there and he's going the other way. Not like it mattered, walking didn't tire me anymore. I was just irritated by it.
"Okay, Ruben." I said, "Thanks."
I turned without hearing anything from him and wandered off the way I came. The door clicked shut.

I walked onto the La Push beach and felt my shoe sink deep into the waterlogged sand. The rain had stopped a while back and a bright orange sunset was dancing and shimmering in the glittering water. On a large rock near the water sat a silhouette of a male figure.
I knew almost straight away who that was, "Jay?"
He turned around, pulling his hood down. A familiar grin filled his face.
Jay was tall and thin. He had pale, white skin and light brown hair that was growing to the bottom of his ears. His eyes were an icy blue and his face was gentle and caring looking with that obviously easily angered look included (even though he wasn't at all easily angered). He had one of those smiles that made you want to mirror him.
I ran through the sand, pulling off my trainers as they got stuck in it and dashing barefooted up to him. I flung myself into his arms (not hard enough to push him over though; I was used to not loosing control of my strength.) "Ellie! Where have you been? I was worried!" He said excitedly.
"Sam wanted the pack to get together... I was out for two days..."
"Oh..." He sighed, "Someone should have told me!"
My smile faded, "Sorry... I thought Sam would have told you. Why didn't you text me back?"
He hugged me in silence for a few seconds then pulled away and looked at me, "I wasn't sure if it was you. It didn't sound like you... I think I was just paranoid..." He paused, "I missed you like heck, El."
"I missed you too. They didn't hurt you, did they?" Concern flashed in my face.
"No..." He answered, "A few bruises. That's it."
I growled under my breath, "Stupid parasites."
"Don't, Ellie. I was talking to Dr. Cullen the other day and_"
I didn't like the sound of this, "And what? You like him?"
"He's not so bad..." Jay was calm.
I didn't like the Cullens. I knew that Sam made us defend them against the gothic leeches but if I had a choice I wouldn't have done it. I couldn't stand the sickly smell of the stupid things. They made me sick.
"Jay, they're the enemy! They bring nothing but trouble to us!"
"To you, Ellie. I'm not like you, remember? I'm human."
"They draw you in! Don't trust any of them!" I felt the heat begin to boil inside me. The animal wanted to break free. I fought against it and my arms began to violently shake.
Jay backed off. "You're shaking, baby... El, you're scaring me..."
I tried hard to steady my breathing. My hands balled into fists. He would never understand how hard it was to contain myself when I was new to the pack. I inhaled slowly, speaking through my teeth after I did so, "Move... Back..."
It got harder to hold back the transformation. Every time I thought about the conversation we were having it raged back up again.
It must have been a minute later when I opened my eyes again and looked at his worried face about two meters away from me. "You ok?" He asked, extending an arm towards me.
I breathed slowly. "Yes..."
He sighed with relief.
"So you like the Cullens now?"
"They're alright, Ellie, just give them a chance!"
That was it. He was so stupid to keep on persuading me after that episode. It was that little sentence that pushed the button and sent me into a fury, no stopping me.
"I told you never to trust them, Jay! I believed you when you said that you'd tell no one about the Quileutes! I also believed you when you agreed to never trusting vampires!"
"I'll never tell anyone about you, Ellie... I'm not that stupid."
I tried to say something in protest; just that little push for him to go back on his decision. However, all that came out of my mouth was a thunderous canine snarl. The anger boiled up inside me to an unbearable level and the shaking wouldn't stop. In effort to stop myself shifting near Jay, I attempted to run off in the opposite direction to where he stood. I got about half a meter away. Suddenly, in less than a second, I transformed into my wolf self right in front of my boyfriend.
This wasn't the first time.
I'd done it twice before in the last two months. The first time was by accident when he'd followed me into the forest on my third day in the pack.
As soon as it was over, I breathed hard and growled every time I thought about the conversation, the very thought of Jay on 'team vampire.'
I opened my eyes and focused on him, hoping I hadn't hurt him in any way.

Chapter 2

Gathering

As I drifted in and out of consciousness, I heard voices. Although faint at first, I began to hear them a bit more after a few minutes. They were echoing, just like I was hearing them in a dream.
I could hear Sam, my brother, in the room. Paul was also there.
"... and left them alone." Paul told Sam. I missed the first part of his sentence.
"Why was Leah there?" The alpha asked.
"She didn't want Seth to come alone."
I tried to make a noise or move but I couldn't. I was glued to whatever I was lying on and my voice didn't seem to work. Unfortunately, I was as still as unbroken water on a windless day.
"Alright. I'm going to ask Seth later on."
"We cool back at the pack?" Paul's voice sounded like it was coming from another room.
I felt someone sit next to me. "Yeah."
"Good. I'll meet you in the forest when she wakes up. We have to fill her in." Paul answered him. "It's strange having two packs, huh?"
No answer came from Sam; the sound of him cracking open a can echoed through the room. Rain pattered on the soil outside and the wind rustled through the fir trees. A door clicked closed after a few minutes.
I tried to move again, slowly breaking the invisible ties around me. This time, it worked. I woke up. As I attempted to speak, a small, pathetic moan escaped from my lips.
"Ellie?" My brother sounded worried.
I managed to flutter my eyes open. My body ached and hurt all over and my vision was blurred. I was in my living room. Sam's face hovered in my vision, a can of coke in his hand and his expression showing interest. "Ellie? Sis?"
Everyone said that looked like him even though we were only half siblings. He was 19, four years older than me.
Being the second female member to the Quileute wolf pack wasn't exactly what I'd call easy. Sam didn't even know about me. His father, who is mine too, had left him when his mother discovered she was pregnant. He had done the same to my mum and she had moved to Forks, by chance, when she was pregnant with me.
Some dad he was!
Of course it was a surprise to all of us when I phased.
My mother didn't expect it, either did Paul. It was a total shock because Leah, up to when I joined, was the only female to possess the gift in the new generation of shape-shifters.
It almost gave my poor mother a heart attack when I had stormed out of the house that day. She had rushed after me like a cheetah chasing a young zebra and tried to persuade me to come back. It took that little push for me to explode into my six foot wolf self, right in front of her eyes. Did she have any idea that I carried shape-shifter genes? No, of course she didn't! She went into shock for days afterwards; I was lucky Sam was able to find me in the forest.
Because I had taken my dad's second name, when I told him he knew almost straight away that I was his half sister. I couldn't be a cousin; Our dad had no brothers or sisters.

I looked up at Sam who appeared to be sitting on the sofa on which I was lying. He gave a serious look. "You've been out for two days, Ellie... We thought you were in a coma. Turns out you were just healing."
Weakly, I nodded to him. I was still aching around my chest and legs. Slowly, I looked at myself and noticed no visible injuries. I was wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a white shirt. My gaze went to Sam.
"Don't worry, we got your mom to change you." He said. I knew he'd picked up on that thought easily.
I managed to smile a bit. "Good." My voice croaked.
"You need filled in. There's been a situation with Seth and Leah. Come outside when you're ready, I'll meet you in the forest in about half an hour." Sam finished his coke and crushed the can in his hand with hardly any effort.
"Alright, Sam." I answered him.
I watched him walk to the kitchen and put the can on an empty surface. He then pulled his shirt off to prevent it from getting torn and walked out of the door into the rain.
I felt him shift.
A short rumble of thunder growled in the sky, the rain came down harder and the wind howled and moaned. The storm was definitely going to reach its height soon.
I started to sit up. Pain clawed through my torso but I still managed to pull myself to my feet. I wasn't healed fully, but I was just strong enough to be able to at least phase.
Being a werewolf had its advantages when it came to healing. Broken ribs took only hours to heal and deep wounds faded within hours. I must have hit my head hard; enough to keep me out while I healed. No need for a coat to keep out the cold either. My high body temperature kept me warm enough. That's why I just walked outside into the rain.
I broke into a slow run (one that didn't hurt me too much) towards the forest, not caring about my clothes. They were just spare ones anyway, bought second hand for the use of wearing in case I phased. I let the heat take over me and it was done in seconds. There was a fast rush of air and I felt my arms and legs quickly extend. A snarl rattled its way out of my jaws as I morphed. A slight tearing sounded as my clothes ripped to shreds. Less than a second later, my huge canine paws thumped against the wet dirt and my sharp teeth snapped together.
A flood of thoughts from the pack came into my mind. It was Collin Littlesea's that I heard first. She shifted.
Sam's thoughts came next. I know, Collin. Give her a bit of time she's still injured.
More thoughts began to come into my mind.
Who's going to tell her?
Should we miss any parts out?
I rolled my eyes as I ran with a limp. I can hear you, guys.
Ellie! You okay? Ryan sounded happy. He was the newest member to the pack, an eighteen year old.
I'm a bit sore but I'll be fine.
Hey Ellie. Paul greeted me.
Hi Paul. Thanks, by the way, for saving me.
It's ok. What else would I have done?
Suck up.
I found Jared's comment quite funny. Just because I was Sam's sister, everyone thought I was special or something. I wasn't.
I kept going, the wind and rain hitting my pelt. My fur was a chocolate brown with a caramel colour on my stomach, face, legs and paws. I had dark brown eyes, like my human form, and I was smaller than the male wolves.
In my human form I was tall and tanned, like most of the pack, and I had black hair that I often wore tied back even though it was short. My face was brave and quite stubborn looking, like Sam's but more feminine and with different shaped eyes and a slightly smaller nose.
Finally, I padded up to the pack of about twenty six foot wolves sitting in a circle; my brother was obviously the tallest one. He was huge and black. He also somewhat blended into the shadows. He rose up as I came and all of the wolves turned to look at me.
Jared, the dark brown wolf to the left of Sam, nodded his head to me.
Hey Jared. How's Kim?
Kim was his imprint. I had just met her a few weeks before and she seemed quite nice.
She's good.
I nodded.
Imprint! I hoped never to imprint on anyone. Female shifters apparently couldn't anyway. I had a boyfriend who I loved and that was Jay. He knew about me being a werewolf, if that's what we are, and sort of accepted it. It must have been quite hard for him.
It was also annoying how Sam had an imprint: Emily, his fiancé. He hardly came to visit me because of her.
A slight growl came from Sam as he registered that thought. Oops. I had forgotten they could read me like an open book.
Sorry, Sam. What was it you had to tell me?
He took a step forward, his paw thumping lightly on the ground. I listened briefly to the river rushing nearby; the rain smashing off the rocks and into the water.
Ryan, the light copper coloured wolf, moved a bit beside me and I returned my attention to my brother. However, it was Jared who directed his thoughts to me.
Seth and Leah came back from Jacob's pack today. They brought news.
I waited for him to continue, sitting down between Ryan and Collin.
There are more vampires in the area- strangers. Jacob told his pack- Embry, Quil, Seth and Leah- to protect Bella and Nessie again. Probably from her own newborn antics... She still can't control herself.
He glanced at Sam for help. He continued.
They want us to help too. Jacob thinks they might use our land as a shortcut to the Cullen land. Apparently, they know the Cullens, but aren't friends.
Great, more to do with the Cullens. I didn't want to, more like I couldn't, disobey the alpha so I nodded my head. Lightening suddenly filled the sky and the thunder growled above our heads.

I'm starting to spread the word about my newest fanfiction, Ellie Uley. I started it a while ago and I've just started to add to it. I have the first chapter and description below for you, if you'd like to check it out. I will post the rest of the story bit by bit. :)

Ellie, half sister of Sam Uley, is the second female to join the Quileute tribe. She dislikes the Cullens and the Volturi. However, when her human boyfriend, Jay, takes a like to the Cullens, can she trust them enough to help her with the problems she faces?

Chapter 1

Rescue

I frantically brushed my hair away from my face, wet with blood, as I looked up at my attacker. I tried to look brave but, in reality, I was terrified.
Pain clawed at my arms and dug it's way through most of my torso. My hands clung to my deep wounds helplessly. I could feel the shards of glass protruding from the gashes. I knew my bones had broken too. Even if I took the shards out of the wounds, it would take a few days for me to heal.
Too long.
He was in front of me, his eyes piercing into mine with an ice cold look and his shadow enveloping me. I buried myself further into the corner in effort to sink through the wall. He bared his teeth in a grin so taunting that I wanted to shout an insult and run. The scent coming from him was unbearable. "Ellie Uley? That's your name, isn't it?" His smirk grew. "You think you're brave, girl! Well I have news for you. You're not. You're just a worthless mutt."
I was too weak to phase. If I had another ounce of strength, I would transform into my wolf form and sink my teeth into his neck.
It would only take one tug for his head to come off.
However, he and his coven had beaten me. I was too weak to even move, there was glass embedded deep down in my body and my legs and ribs were broken.
It was my fault! How could I have been so stupid? What in the world made me think I was powerful enough to take on the Volturi? No, it was because of Jay.
It was because of him that I had gotten into this mess. If he hadn't got himself in trouble with the Volturi, none of this would have happened.
I had travelled all the way to Italy to try and get him back. He'd been an idiot... When the Volturi guards crossed our land, we attacked them. It was Sam's idea, of course. Just because there we had about twenty members in the pack by then, he thought we could take them. Jay had followed me to the fight without me knowing. I had told him nothing about vampires! We were winning the fight- I could have easily taken that pain and waited for Jane to be distracted. No. I'm too special for him to wait. Jay just had to run at Jane and try to stab her with a knife, didn't he?
What an idiot! A knife? Of course it just bent and fell from his hand as he crippled over in pain! They took him that day against all of our power and protest. We'd ended up senseless because of Alec.
So there I was; lying battered against a wall as Felix moved closer and closer. Demetri was in the room somewhere too, but out of my sight. The dark room under the town of Volterra seemed even more buried in blackness at that minute. Somewhere, quite nearby, they were keeping Jay. He had information... Aro would surely collect it before killing him.
The vampire smell clung to the wall behind me- a strong, sickly-sweet scent. Without thinking, I grabbed the closest thing to me (which turned out to be a chair) and threw it at Felix. In an instant, the chair stopped in mid-air and it shattered in his grip.
This was it, I was dead.

Faint at first, a sound began from behind the door. At first, it must have been miles away because my sensitive ears wouldn't have picked it up if it was close. Demetri, who I then noticed at the back, and Felix looked towards the door.
Oh, how I wished I could have phased then, but my eyes were beginning to close. The pain was taking over and my blood was pouring. I was wearing rags of my clothes which had torn when I had phased.
The sound became clearer.
Growling- it must have been. And paws thudding.
Felix made a grab for me but I managed to dodge to the left.
Less than a minute later, a familiar scent filled my nose. Even though it hurt, I couldn't help but smile a little. The door crashed from it's hinges and the wood shattered, sending splinters into the room.
Paul Lahote burst into the area in his wolf form. His grey and white fur was thick and bristled and his teeth were bared. The creature had to lower his huge body just to get in the door. Paul's blue eyes took one look at me crippled in the corner and the anger overflowed. A low rumbling snarl erupted from his jaws, his claws scraped against the marble floor and he bounded full speed towards Felix. That was the last thing I saw before my eyes felt heavy and closed.
