My Thoughts:

So, this song is perfect for Esme and Bella because they both sort of resoluted to jumping off a cliff in the worst times of their

lives. Bella had lost the love of her life and Esme was abused and had just lost her only child days after birth. As for "Turn it offf" I think it means to turn off the pain. Emotional pain is something that only yourself can turn off, and they thought the best way to turn it off was by jumping.
