Carlisle Cullen is the husband of Esme, and the foster father of Edward, Rosalie, Emmet, Alice, and Jasper. Carlisle is the son of an Anglican pastor. He was born sometime in the 1640s in London, England during a time of religious and political upheaval. Carlisle's father and other pastors led hunts for werewolves, witches, and vampires, claiming that they were attempting to rid the world of evil and sin. Many a time, however, these groups would end up killing innocent citizens. As his father aged, Carlisle was put in charge of the raids after these creatures. He was less at ease about killing as his father was, but he was intelligent enough to find a real coven of vampires inhabiting the sewers of London. Carlisle led the hunt after these vampires, and in the chaos that ensued, he was attacked and left bleeding in the street by a vampire. Knowing what his father would do, Carlisle hid himself in a potato cellar for his painful transformation, emerging three days later as a vampire. Carlisle was repelled and horrified by what he had become, and tried various ways of killing himself, including starvation, drowning, and jumping off cliffs. Eventually he was so desperate for blood that while he was hiding in a cave in a forest he attacked and fed on a herd of passing deer. He found that he could survive off animal blood and he considered this much more humane than drinking the blood of a human, there by killing them. Nowadays, he has been living lately in the small town of Forks, Washington. He continued his life without any interference to what he is, and what he can do. Carlisle works as a doctor in medicine in a small hospital in Forks. In New Moon, Bella was very astounded and amazed, knowing that Carlisle is the only vampire in the coven who can resist the temptation of blood completely. And Carlisle told her that he barely notice the scent anymore. Bella said that it would have been probably the most hardest thing Carlisle encountered in his centuries as a vampire, but Carlisle insisted it wasn't. He told her that he only did, what he have to do and that he have to regain himself again, and resume what he was doing...human or not.
Esme Cullen (born Esme Anne Platt and later Esme Anne Evenson) was born 1895 and lived in Columbus, Ohio where at age 16 was treated by her future husband Dr. Cullen after she broke her leg falling out of a tree. She was forced by her parents to marry a man named Charles Evenson but was abused by him. After realizing she was pregnant, she left her husband and gave birth to a son. After losing her son to a lung infection, Esme attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a cliff (Edward tells Bella she "fell"). Presumed dead, they didn't even take her to the emergency room and placed her in the morgue. Dr. Carlisle Cullen heard her beating heart and remembered her. He didn't want her to die and decided to change her into a vampire like himself. She was the second person he changed beside Edward. Consequently, Carlisle and Esme fell in love and were married soon after. Esme has no special power, only the ability to love very deeply and accepts Bella immediately grateful for helping and being there for the first time for Edward. She loves Bella as a daughter and often comforts her through tough times. She loves her adopted children equally but grieves the fact that she cannot bear children. Her love is the reason the cullens became a family. She will be Bella's adoptive mother-in-law, after Bella marries Edward. In New Moon (vote), Esme fully accepted Bella as a part of their family and that she is very honored that Bella has finally become a member of their family. She now serves as a wife to her beloved husband, Carlisle Cullen, and a very loving foster mother to her children, Edward Cullen, Rosalie Hale, Emmet Cullen, Alice Cullen, and Japer Hale.
Edward Anthony Masen was born on the 20th of June 1901 to Elizabeth and Edward Masen in Chicago, Illinois. Soon after turning 17, the Spanish Influenza hit Chicago, killing both of his parents. Plagued with the disease and on his deathbed, Edward drew concern from Dr Carlisle Cullen, a vampire who personal ethos curtails to saving human life rather than using them for their blood. Spurned by loneliness and Elizabeth Masen’s last words, to do everything in his power to save him, Carlisle transformed Edward into a vampire. Carlisle instilled in him, his own sense of morality and compassion, unique for vampires, with their “vegetarian” diet of animal blood becoming central to their existence. From years until now, he lives with Carlisle and the rest of his family. Until then, he met a girl named Bella Swan and fell deeply in love with her. Thus, this is going to be very difficult for him, because he's a vampire and he have to watch his every single move whenever he's around Bella, he thought he might crush her if he ever losts control. Bella suggested that he should make her one of them too, but Edward insisted because in New Moon, he had overheard Carlisle and Bella's conversation about vampires and that they have lost their souls. Edward then never wanted to have Bella to be a vampire like him to save her from losing her soul. But then, if he didn't, he would have to urge and fight the thirst he feels whenever he smells Bella's mouthwatering scent. Plus, In New Moon, the Volturi discovered Bella's ability on how vampires cannot access her mind. Aro was very pleased and he want Bella to become a vampire. Edward still have tiny issues on how he's going to do that but he said yes anyway because if he didn't, the Volturi will have to kill Bella. Edward then agreed at the end, but he has one condition...Bella have to marry him. Unfortunately, Jacob came in sight and reminded Edward about the treaty. The treaty was about the werewolves and that Edward and the rest of the vampires, shouldn't bite any human. And that had left Bella, confused. If She won't become a vampire, the Volturi will kill her, otherwise, if she did become a vampire, the Cullen's would have break the treaty and that will really start a fight between the Cullens.
Rosalie Lillian Hale was born to a middle-class family in 1915. When she was 18, the Great Depression hit the US. Her father had a stable job in a bank. Her parents were social climbers. Rosalie, who was extraordinarily beautiful, was the ticket they needed to reach their social aspiration. She was clearly the favorite of her parents, with two younger brothers. Meanwhile, Rosalie dreamed of a lavish life--a life with a rich husband and children as beautiful as she was. Her parents influenced her want of material things. She wanted a big house that someone else would clean, with a large lawn that she would play with her children on. In Rochester, where she grew up, there was only one family that had what her parents wanted--the Kings. Royce King owned the bank Rosalie's father worked in. His son, Royce II, and Rosalie began dating. The engagement went quickly too and wedding plans were made. Rosalie couldnt help but feel something was missing from her relationship with him. She soon began wanting what her good friend, Vera, had-- a husband who wasn't necessarily rich, but one that loved her and was there for her, and a small baby they could raise together lovingly. One night she went to Vera's, and while walking home she realized how late it was and she wished that she had thought to call her father to escort her. On the way, she saw several drunken men. One turned out be Royce. Showing her off to his friends, he ripped pins from her hair. When she cried out in pain, the men seemed to enjoy it. They proceeded to beat and then rape her. Afterwards, they left her dying in the street. Carlisle Cullen found her. Rosalie had never liked Dr. Cullen or his wife and her brother, as Edward then pretended to be. It bothered her that the family was more beautiful than she was. Dr. Cullen, who turned out to be a vampire, saved Rosalie that night by turning her into a vampire. The "vegetarian" family only drank the blood of animals. Soon after becoming a vampire she killed Royce and his friends--careful not to spill a drop of blood. Since then, Rosalie prides herself on never having drunk human blood. Two years later, she found Emmett being mauled by a bear and ran him back to Carlisle. She begged for him to save the dying Emmett, who reminded her of Vera's little boy, by changing him into a vampire. The two were soon married. Rosalie and Emmett currently reside in Forks, Washington, but they often live away from the family as a married couple. Currently she is the only one, aside Carlisle that has kept her last name on the grounds that she never wanted to be a vampire in the first place. In New Moon, she mistakenly reports to Edward that Bella is dead after she supposedly commits suicide, though Bella was actually just partaking in the sport of cliff-diving. He then proceeds to travel to Italy, desiring to have the Volturi kill him, only to be stopped by Alice and Bella. While most of the Cullens votes in favor of changing Bella into a vampire, Edward and Rosalie vote against it changing her. In Eclipse, Rosalie reveals her past to Bella with the hopes that she will choose to stay a human being. She also joins the fight against a group of savage newborn vampires. In Breaking Dawn, Bella learns about her pregnancy and Edward is afriad that the baby is killing her with it's accelerated growth that he orders her to get an abortion to save her life. She refuses, knowing she has a connection with the baby and contacts Rosalie for support, knowing that she has always wanted to have children. She stays by Bella's side throughout the pregnancy, and defends her choice to keep the baby, causing Edward to reconsider forcing his wife to get an abortion. Rosalie acts as a guardian to the child, Renesmee, taking care of her while Bella is going through her painful transformation into a vampire and they become very close. When the Volturi plot to destroy Renesmee, Rosalie helps gather vampire nomads, with Emmett, to provide evidence that Renesmee isn't a danger to them. Rosalie is described as tall, statuesque and blonde. She's vain and self-centered on the outside. However, the truth is that she longs to be human and have children, so much that she's willing give up her immortality, beauty and even Emmett for it. It's for that reason she strongly resents Bella Swan with a passion. Rosalie knows that she's being foolish in wanting to throw away her humanity just to be a vampire, which Rose herself never wanted to lose in the first place.
Emmett Cullen (born Emmett McCarty) is Rosalie's husband, Carlisle and Esme's adopted son, and Edward, Alice, and Jasper's adoptive brother. Emmett is described as being tall, burly, extremely muscular, and, to most humans, the most intimidating of his adoptive siblings. He has slightly curly dark hair and dimpled cheeks. Emmett was 20 and living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in 1935 when he was mauled by a bear. The injuries from the attack were severe and he was found by Rosalie, who had been hunting in the area at the time. Rosalie, who was reminded of her friend's baby having the same curls and innocent appearance, carried him over a hundred miles to Appalachia where Carlisle Cullen was, asking him to spare Emmett's life by turning him into a vampire. Emmett joined Carlisle's coven, but initially had trouble adjusting to the family's diet of animal blood. In Twilight, Emmett is at first wary of Bella, but eventually warms up to her. He often teases her for her clumsiness and constant blushing, and votes in favor of her becoming a vampire in New Moon. In Breaking Dawn Emmett jokingly makes innuendos about Bella's sex life, until being silenced when she defeats him in an arm wrestling match. He is all about strength and having fun, and he always teases everyone, even his beloved Rose. He always wants to play games, and he is always eager to kick some butt. Maybe that proves why he was attacked by a big bear...Maybe the bear thought he was his brother bear. He is also Bella's ideal big brother, big, and sweet.
Alice Cullen (born Mary Alice Brandon) is the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme, adoptive sister of Edward, Rosalie, and Emmett, and wife of Jasper. Alice's early history is very vague, as she remembers nothing of her human life and woke up alone as a vampire. It is eventually revealed that she was born around 1901 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and was kept in an asylum because she had premonitions. Alice was changed by an old vampire who worked at the asylum in order to protect her from James, a tracker vampire who was hunting her. After doing some research, Alice found her grave and discovered that the date on her tombstone matched the date of her admission to the asylum. Through her research she additionally discovered that she had a little sister named Cynthia, and that Cynthia's daughter, Alice's niece, was still alive in Biloxi. Throughout Twilight, Alice uses her ability to see the future and help Bella when she is in danger. The two soon become friends, loving each other like sisters. In New Moon, Alice foresees Bella jumping off a cliff and assumes she is trying to commit suicide, though Bella actually was partaking in the sport of cliff diving. Rosalie, believing Bella to be dead, informs Edward. After discovering the truth, Alice accompanies Bella to Italy to stop Edward from killing himself. They are successful, but are taken to see the Volturi, who act as police of the vampire world. Through Alice's premonitions, Aro is able to see that Bella will eventually become a vampire and invites her, Alice, and Edward to stay with them. They all refuse and return to Forks. In Eclipse, Alice, who proves to be an adept fighter, joins in the fight to destroy a group of rampaging newborn vampires, created by Victoria in an effort to take revenge on Edward. she is the first to find out about Edward and Bella's engagement. In Breaking Dawn, after planning the wedding, Alice acts as Bella's maid of honor at her wedding and helps with Renesmee until leaving to search out a crossbreed after the Volturi plan to destroy Renesmee, believing her to be an immortal child. Alice is successful and the Volturi, not seeing a threat, leave. Alice is described as being petite and pixie-like, with a graceful gait and hair that is short, spiky, and black. Her special ability is to see the future, an enhanced version of her ability to have premonitions as a human. However, her ability is limited; she is only able to see the outcome of a decision once it is made. Due to this, decisions made in the spur of the moment can not be foreseen. Alice can see futures involving humans and vampires, though is unable to see the futures of werewolves or half-breeds, such as Renesmee. Alice theorizes that she can see vampires very clearly because she is one, can see humans somewhat less clearly because she was one, and cannot see werewolves or half-breeds because she has never been one. Alice is portrayed as being bubbly and optimistic, and loves and cares for Bella like a sister. Her hobbies include shopping, make-overs, and throwing parties.
Jasper Hale (born Jasper Whitlock) is the adopted son of Carlisle and Esme, adoptive brother of Edward, Emmett, and Rosalie, and husband of Alice. He was born in Texas in 1843 and joined the Confederate States Army in 1861 to serve in the Civil War. Due to his extremely charismatic personality, he ascended through the ranks quickly. Jasper was turned into a vampire in 1863 by a vampire named Maria when he was 20 years old. As a vampire, he gained the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of those around him. Recognizing his high rank in the army, Maria decided to change him into a vampire to help her claim territory in Monterrey. Jasper's responsibility was to train young vampires and then kill them when they were no longer useful (about a year after their transformation- when their strength began to fade). After about a century of this, he grew weary of the lifestyle and joined an old friend, Peter, and his mate Charlotte. Jasper left
the two eventually, not wanting to feed on humans because he could feel his prey's emotions as they died. Alice, foreseeing that they would be together, met him in a half-empty diner in Philadelphia, and together they sought out the Cullen family. During their companionship and travels, they soon fell in love and were later married. In Twilight, Jasper accompanies Alice and Bella when they are hiding from James. He uses his ability to calm Bella when she is stressed or afraid. In New Moon, he attacks Bella after she gets a paper cut, prompting the Cullen family to leave Forks to protect Bella. In Eclipse, he trains his family and the wolf pack to fight newborn vampires. his history becomes known. In Breaking Dawn, Jasper runs away with Alice to find witnesses for the confrontation with the Volturi. They find his old friends, the nomads Peter and Charlotte, and Nahuel, the half vampire half human boy. You also find out that he is the one that gets the family their drivers licences and passports from J Jenks, who is also a little scared of 'Mr. Jasper'. He is described as tall with honey blond hair, and is muscular but lean and is physically 20 years old. His body is covered with crescent-shaped scars, after the many years of fighting and training newborn vampires. Due to his past, where he was able to feed on humans whenever he chose, Jasper lacks strong self-control.
