In Suez of 1810, Benjamin sees Tia with her husband. Flashing back to their childhood, a young Benjamin meets Tia, who was given to their distant uncle after her mother became unable to support them both. Despite Tia's weariness, Benjamin shows her his gift over fire, telling her that he stole fire from the sun god, Ra. Their uncle witnesses this through the window and decides to use him to perform magic shows.
On one occasion, Tia gets caught stealing money from the audience. Benjamin manages to get her away. Tia expresses her concern about their uncle sending her away, because he only kept those who could make money. Benjamin promises to keep run away with her when the time comes, because he cannot imagine living without her.
Back to the present, Benjamin catches Tia's attention with a fireball in his hand. She returned home after Benjamin and their uncle mysteriously disappeared, and she was eventually married off for a dowry. Benjamin tells her everything that happened; he was turned by a man named Amun, who took him away and hid him for five years under the cover story that it was done to keep him safe from a clan of powerful vampires.
At sunrise, Tia sees Benjamin's skin sparkle and decides to become a vampire herself to be with him. Benjamin makes her promise that he will never have to survive without her again. Tia answers, "I made that promise years ago."
