Steve was a newborn vampire in the Seattle newborn army. He is one of the only three survivors from the coven's demise, others being his mate Shelly, and Fred.
Biography
Sometime after Steve was recruited to the Seattle newborn army, he fell in love with Shelly, a fellow coven member. The army was told of the stereotypical legends about vampires, but when Steve and Shelly discovered that the sun could not harm vampires, they fled the army together and never looked back. Since they didn't return, Victoria didn't bother to hunt them down. The army's second-in-command, Riley Biers told the rest that Shelly and Steve were "lost to the sun" as a cover story.
He and Shelly are currently living a nomadic lifestyle.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
Steve was mentioned in The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Bree when Diego told her that indirect sunlight doesn't harm them. Bree thought it was impossible and said, "But Shelly and Steve. Doug and Adam. That kid with the bright red hair. All of them. They're gone because they didn't get back in time. Riley saw the ashes."
