The Southern Vampire Wars have an unknown start date but most likely in the late 16th century given Jasper Hale's description of, "Your histories blame the sudden decline on disease". It began when a vampire named Benito created the first newborn army. Jasper became involved in the later half of the 19th century.

The beginning date is unkown as well but it is told by Jasper in 'Eclipse 'that the War possibley began when southern vampires came to the realization that "if they were the only vampire in lets say Mexico (a largely populated area of human life) then they could feed every night, two or three times.
