Quil Ateara, Sr., also known as "Old Quil" is the grandfather of Quil Ateara and is a council member in La Push where he lives.

Quil is one of the only living members of the Quileute tribe that was alive during the time of the previous pack. It was him who recognized the change in Sam when he returned to the tribe. He explained to Sam what had happened to him and taught him everything that had been passed down through the generations about becoming a werewolf. He along with Billy Black and Harry Clearwater saw their fathers and grandfathers (respectively) change into a wolf form.[1]

He is described as white-haired, looking quite brittle and ancient with a thin tenor voice.

Eclipse featured a scene in which Bella, Jacob, the pack and a few other Quileute residents sat down to hear Quil Ateara Sr. telling some of the Quileute legends about Kaheleha. This was his only appearance in the books other than being mentioned by Jacob Black various times.
