Phoenix, Arizona was the town that Stephenie Meyer grew up in, as did Bella Swan. It is where Bella took dance classes and lived for almost 17 years of her life. Phoenix is also where James almost killed Bella.
Also, Renee [Bella's biological mother] moved their after she left Charlie [Bella's biological father] . Some of her last words were, "Let me go Charlie," and Bella had to repeat these words to Charlie so that she could escape to Phoenix to get away from James, the tracker vampire.
