London, England, was the place where Carlisle Cullen was born. He grew up and spent a good part of his life there. He was eventually turned into a vampire there as well. London was most likely also the place that his father lived.
England was very well known for its witch hunting activities, hence this is one of the reasons Carlisle had to go into hiding.
