Stewart was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.[1] Her father, John Stewart (not to be confused with The Daily Show's Jon Stewart), is a stage manager and television producer who worked for FOX.[2] Her mother is a scriptwriter who comes from Australia.[1][3] She has an older brother, Cameron. She currently lives with her family in Los Angeles.
Stewart attended school until the seventh grade, and then continued her education by correspondence.[1] She is an avid surfer.[4]
In June 2008, she confirmed to Vanity Fair that she was dating actor Michael Angarano.[5]
