Charles is an European nomadic vampire. He first appeared in book three of Breaking Dawn, where he comes to Forks to witness for the Volturi; he did not agree with it and left shortly afterwards with his mate, Makenna.
Truth detection

Charles has a talent for sensing if someone is telling the truth. Through this power, he learns that Cullens are telling the truth about Renesmee being half-human. This gift is similar to Maggie's ability to detect if someone is lying.
