Biloxi (pronounced /bəˈlʌksi/, bə-LUK-see) is a city in Harrison County, Mississippi, in the United States. The 2000 census recorded the population as 50,644, although the 2008 Census Estimate placed the population at 45,670. Along with Gulfport, Biloxi is a county seat of Harrison County.

The city is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area and the Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula, Mississippi Combined Statistical Area. Pre-Katrina, Biloxi was the third largest city in Mississippi; but with its population losses following that storm, Hattiesburg now has that distinction.

The beachfront of Biloxi lies directly on the Mississippi Sound, with barrier islands scattered off the coast and into the Gulf of Mexico. Keesler Air Force Base lies within the city and is home to the 81st Training Wing and the 403rd Wing of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Biloxi in the Twilight saga

Biloxi was the home of Mary Alice Brandon (later Alice Cullen) as a human, and to Cynthia Brandon, her little sister. It is the current home Cynthia´s daughter.

Alice's memories of her early life were completely erased when she became a vampire, but in Twilight James reveals that he knew the vampire who created her. Alice had suffered from premonitions that frightened her family, and was confined to an asylum for electroshock treatment. All of her life there, she was kept in a dark room, which explains why she has no memories of her human life. A kindly vampire, obviously similar to Carlisle (Alice's creator and adoptive father) in morals worked there, and was deeply fond of Alice (he may even have been in love with her). James, however, was highly attracted to her scent and began to hunt her. Her vampire protector, unable to bear losing Alice, bit her and changed her into a vampire to prevent James from drinking her blood. The vampire was later killed by James in revenge.

Alice spent some time in Biloxi researching her origins, and discovered her own gravestone: the date of death corresponded to the date that she was confined to the asylum, indicating that she was "dead" to her family.
