Benito was a young Southern vampire. He was the one who invented the idea of a newborn army and was widely successful with it. This eventually led to the vampire wars of the south that were ended when the Volturi recognized it as a problem. Benito was entrenched in Puebla, building a newborn army in order to conquer Mexico City, until the Volturi killed him when intervening in The Southern Vampire Wars.
By successfully capturing Northern Mexico it was stated by Jasper that the Volturi were "cleaning" house for a year.
